Essex Sexual Health Service (ESHS) is led by Provide Community and commissioned by Essex County Council.
The successful applicant will work as part of the ESHS Outreach and Education Team, focusing on seldom heard from communities in Essex to support the reduction of adverse sexual health outcomes and health inequalities.
Main duties of the job
* Support in the design and delivery of effective health promotion (HP) and behavior change communication (BCC) interventions for Seldom Heard from Communities, including People of African/Caribbean Heritage, Commercial Sex Workers (CSW), Men who have sex with men (MSM), and other at-risk groups.
* Deliver community engagement approaches that tackle HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
* Deliver targeted interventions to increase knowledge and awareness of HIV, promote HIV testing, and highlight the benefits of early diagnosis and access to care.
* Undertake comprehensive training to achieve Assistant Practitioner (AP) competencies for offering HIV point of care testing (POCT) for HIV, syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infections.
* Support wider service delivery across Essex, requiring personal transportation and a full driving license.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Deliver targeted HP/BCC outreach interventions including HIV & STI testing, health promotion, inter-faith/faith-based work, GP engagement, and campaign delivery.
* Work closely with seldom heard from communities, tailoring approaches to meet their needs.
* Increase awareness of key sexual health topics through training days and community education sessions.
* Achieve competencies to become an Assistant Practitioner (AP) for community testing.
* Support educational establishments and professionals in delivering RSHE.
* Work directly with young people at risk of harm or sexual ill health through education and early intervention programs.
* Maintain systems to monitor and record HP/BCC interventions, ensuring data quality.
* Establish and maintain relationships with partner agencies and represent ESHS professionally.
* Engage diverse communities through various methods including social media, community events, and public venues.
* Support in the recruitment and delivery of the volunteer ‘Champions for Change’ health champions model.
* Manage workload and maintain communication with the team.
* Take responsibility for self-led education relevant to the role.
* Assist with campaigns and events related to sexual health awareness.
* Deliver a condom distribution service to at-risk communities.
* Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users.
Person specification
Skills
* Clean driving licence & access to a car with the ability to travel across the county.
Qualifications
* Hold a relevant Health Promotion Qualification.
Experience
* Experience of delivering and evaluating health promotion interventions to communities facing health inequalities.
* Experience of delivering education/training packages to professionals and/or community groups.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills for communication and relationship management.
* Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
* Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and database entry skills.
* Good standards of accuracy, numeracy, and literacy.
Knowledge
* Understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Knowledgeable about HIV prevention, sexual health, and community health needs.
