What do our Graduate Civil Engineers do?
As a Graduate Civil Engineer based in Stantec’s Christchurch office, you will join a friendly and supportive team who will guide you on your journey to gain experience and exposure, enhance your technical skills, and develop your insight into the multifaceted nature of the water industry. Technical guidance and career progression will also be facilitated throughout the Graduate Programme, which you will follow along with the rest of your cohort.
Additionally, you may have opportunities to support other disciplines within the Stantec Water Team, including dams and dam safety, structural, geotechnical, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Collaboration across disciplines is encouraged on various projects, providing a well-rounded learning experience.
Our Christchurch Civil team typically works for local district councils and may, however, from time to time support other regional offices across New Zealand and internally to deliver a variety of projects across the water sector. In this team, your day-to-day tasks may include:
* Site visits to review project progress, perform tests, and complete site walkovers to ensure sites are operating safely.
* Performing data analysis and design calculations.
* Attending workshops, training, and career development opportunities.
* Reviewing drawings and designs for construction projects.
* Assisting with work on drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.
* Writing risk assessments, reports, memos, and other project management documentation.
What you will bring:
You will be a recent graduate or soon to graduate with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) or Master of Civil Engineering, ready to kick start your professional engineering career! You are motivated, pragmatic, and have an appetite for learning and gaining experience across various disciplines.
You will have a strong interest in water engineering and can demonstrate personal leadership qualities and thrive in an environment in which you are challenged.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
* Have a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) or Master of Civil Engineering or equivalent in Civil Engineering (due to complete in 2025).
* Preferably hold a current restricted or full driving licence.
* Have working rights in New Zealand (Student Visa holder, convertible to post-study open work visa, Permanent Resident OR Citizen).
