Casual Contract – payable at an hourly rate. The nature of this role requires that the successful applicant have a flexible approach to working hours. There will be weeks when more hours are required, and weeks where there are fewer working hours. The postholder will be required to attend in person 14 meetings per year plus flexibility to attend ad hoc meetings. Work outside meetings will need to be carried out remotely but this can be done flexibly.
The appointment is to the Tuition, Medical & Behaviour Support Service (Pupil Referral Unit) which provides education, based at six Education Centres, for pupils who, by reason of illness, exclusion or otherwise, are being educated out of school. The Service caters for pupils in KS1 to KS4 who have a wide range of needs and were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in our Inspection in October 2023. It also provides teaching support in two hospitals, individual teaching, and shared placement provision for pupils in mainstream schools. Children are referred via a multi-agency panel. The main work of the Service is to include and reintegrate into the child's original or another mainstream school where possible, or work towards a suitable long-term placement.

The post holder will serve as the clerk to the governors, providing essential administration support to the governing body. The role involves taking accurate minutes during meetings, ensuring that detailed notes of discussions and decisions are recorded. The postholder will also be responsible for preparing and distributing meetings agendas and papers ahead of time, facilitating smooth communication. Additionally, they will offer advice on governance matters, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices. The post holder will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience of minute taking. They will need good interpersonal skills and organisation skills and be competent in the use of Microsoft software, email and internet.
There are 14 meetings planned each academic year which take place on Thursday afternoons, so the postholder would need to be available from 3pm until 6.30pm for these meetings. The postholder will also need the flexibility to arrange and attend ad hoc meetings through the year.
