Position: Specialist Independent Educators
This role involves providing 2:1 educational support for a 9-year-old child with complex healthcare needs and autism, educated outside of school (EOTAS). The child has an undiagnosed genetic condition causing medical and physical complexities.
The successful candidates will be trained to manage the child's medical needs. The child cannot communicate verbally but support will be provided to understand his needs. Currently, the team is learning British Sign Language (BSL), which the child is expected to learn as well.
Hours: The work schedule follows a two-week rotation:
* Week 1: Thursday and Friday
* Week 2: Tuesday and Wednesday
Daily hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, always working with a colleague to ensure continuous 2:1 support. Additional work may include external provisions, details to be discussed at interview.
The role includes delivering education during term time (11:00 am - 1:00 pm) and providing wraparound support, including transporting the child from home to educational settings and back.
Rate of Pay & Holidays: £16.80 per hour for 8 hours weekly on a rotational basis, with 5.6 weeks of holiday pro-rata, to be taken during school holidays. Employment terms, probation, and additional details will be provided in the contract.
Educational Duties & Responsibilities:
* Deliver education, therapies, and alternative provisions as per EHCP
* Interpret child's preferences and needs, support communication
* Use intensive interaction approaches to develop communication skills
* Provide hand-over-hand support and adapt curriculum to child's needs
* Implement positive behaviour support strategies
* Maintain close liaison with parents and care team
* Supervise and monitor child's health and well-being
* Keep accurate records of daily activities and interventions
* Plan and deliver education according to EHCP
* Transport child to external provisions as required
Qualifications:
* Teaching or Teaching Assistant qualifications and relevant experience
* Experience in SEN settings is desirable but not essential
* Experience with disabled children and understanding of Autism is an advantage
* Full UK Driving Licence is essential
Healthcare Needs (training provided after probation):
* Knowledge of central line care and emergency procedures
* Jejunostomy and gastric care management
* Monitoring and managing movement and safety
* Administering medication
* Managing oxygen equipment and emergency response
* Using medical equipment such as suction machines and monitors
* Providing personal care and ensuring safety
* Documenting care activities
* Following care plans and EHCPs
