A highly regarded global firm is looking for an ambitious Associate to join their market-leading Environment, Health and Safety team based in Leeds. The EHS team ranks as top tier across all major legal directories, with many lawyers receiving significant recognition. There is a stellar client base comprising a range of blue chip clients that are both UK and internationally based, with an emphasis on chemicals, industrials and manufacturing. This opportunity will see you supporting these leading organisations through their most challenging times, which makes for an interesting and fast paced role, with a real human dimension. The team act across the full remit of environmental matters including contentious, advisory and transactional, all of which is the highest quality.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
1. Providing environmental and health & safety advice on real estate and corporate transactions.
2. Working with international environmental colleagues on multi-jurisdictional transactions and projects.
3. Working collaboratively with other members of the environmental team and also with other teams such as real estate, planning, corporate and health and safety.
4. Undertaking a broad range of environmental work, both non-contentious advisory work, transactional support and contentious environmental work.
5. Advising clients on REACH and biocides legislation, EU ETS and producer responsibility legislation.
6. Drafting and negotiating environmental provisions and allocating responsibility for potential environmental liability in transactions.
7. Assist clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement action brought by the EA and other environmental regulators.
8. Taking a pro-active approach to business development.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
1. Qualified Solicitor, ideally NQ-6 years' PQE.
2. Enthusiasm and a strong interest in environmental law/ESG.
3. Excellent academic qualifications, with a degree classification of 2:1 or higher.
4. A good team player but equally able to manage your own matters effectively.
5. The ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
6. Strong communication and influencing skills.
7. Exceptional research skills.
8. Proficient in drafting.
9. Commercial and practical attitude.
