About the role The HLTA will work under the leadership of the Operational SENCo. Key Responsibilities: As a HLTA in our school, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to students with diverse educational needs. Your key responsibilities will include: Working one-on-one with students to provide individualised support, address their unique learning needs, and help them make progress towards their educational goals Providing specialised support to students to help them develop their skills and integrate successfully into the classroom environment Running targeted interventions and group sessions to support students who require additional academic assistance or have specific learning challenges Planning, preparing and delivering specified learning activities to individuals, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary under the direction and supervision of a teacher Assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment of SEN students Liaising with staff and other relevant professionals and providing information about pupils as appropriate Engaging with parents as appropriate Use teaching and learning objectives to plan, evaluate and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate within agreed systems of supervision when delivering intervention Assessing the needs of pupils and using knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils’ learning Developing independence in our SEN students using metacognitive strategies to help them become self-regulated learners Taking a Tutor group where required Providing pastoral care to pupils, supporting pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate Participating in team meetings, staff development activities and the wider school community to support the achievement of individual children. Providing assistance to the SENCO in relation to access arrangements for SEND students in exam Provide cover where appropriate Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates who: Have English and Maths GCSE equivalent at C or 4 equivalent Have a proven experience in running interventions and delivering targeted support to students with learning difficulties or special educational needs. Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Have the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Have experience of working with young people aged 11-19 in a secondary school. Have a connection with young people and can help them feel safe. Hold young people in high esteem and communicates that through the way they treat them Have a willingness to undertake further work related training Have good ICT skills or be willing to learn (including using Microsoft Word and Excel) Have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team Have good organisation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills Will be willing to undertake first aid training Have a commitment to inclusion Help foster a culture of high expectations Have a commitment to the school’s ethos and vision Be able to establish strong relationships with students and staff Model professional standards across all areas of work.
