An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, passionate Occupational Therapist to work within the Engagement, Activity and Physical Health (EAP) team on Greyfriars Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Greyfriars is a 10 bedded Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for Working Age Adults with a range of complex mental health conditions. The post involves having a responsibility for devising and providing Occupational Therapy intervention to inpatient service users with complex mental health needs. This will incorporate the principles of Recovery and Social Inclusion, to ensure safe and effective discharge planning. The post holder will also have responsibility for delegating tasks as outlined in individual Occupational Therapy intervention plans.
The post involves working closely within the wider Multi-disciplinary Team, consisting of nurses, medics, health and exercise practitioners, health care assistants, and psychology staff. A commitment to team working is essential. The post holder should be able to demonstrate effective clinical reasoning skills, apply theory to practice, and communicate effectively with patients, their carers, and colleagues alike. In return, the successful candidate will be supported to utilise evidence-based practice and have the opportunity to contribute to developing innovative services in a ward-based environment. The successful candidate will also receive regular supervision and will be encouraged to utilise reflective practice. You will be expected to have a working knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and complete assessments, care plans, and deliver a range of interventions within the hospital setting and local community.
We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity, and provides a sense of belonging and trust. The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey, just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:
1. 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users;
2. 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work;
3. 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisation's priority;
4. 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative.
Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
