Job Title: Paraeducator Special Education
Location: Nauset Integrated Preschool, Eastham Elementary School
Job Summary
Paraeducators implement special education or related services for a class and/or provide direct assistance to students. Duties will vary depending upon the age of students and on the nature and severity of the student's disabilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Understands confidentiality laws as they pertain to student records and keeps student information confidential.
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning or skills initially introduced and outlined by the teacher.
Assists students entering and leaving school with transition into classroom/buses.
Follow teachers instructions for behavioral and educational accommodations.
Works with students to meet the goals and objectives as directed by the teacher(s), and assists with generalization of skills in the classroom as directed by Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist, or counseling staff.
Follows behavior intervention plans as directed by the teacher(s).
When applicable, records/collects student data in collaboration with special education teachers and/or service providers.
Accompanies students to snack, recess, and lunch.
When assigned, directly supervise individual students to monitor safety and assist with appropriate social skills.
When the teacher is absent, the Paraprofessional assists the substitute teacher assigned to the classroom.
Collaborates with colleagues to provide a positive school culture.
Follows IEP accommodations as directed by the teacher.
Report any academic or behavioral issues directly to the teacher.
Travels between various classrooms and works with faculty members and students.
Monitors student engagement and redirects as needed.
Assists students with planning and organizing materials and belongings. .
May provide assistance to students with personal care needs.
Assists classroom teacher with assignments and classroom management.
Provides extra help as needed to all students, some of whom may have limitations.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to communicate clearly and be able to adapt and implement tasks and accommodations or modifications in materials, instructional or assessment practices.
Act with sensitivity towards the differences among individuals.
Exhibit patience when working with students.
Ability to report work orally or in writing as needed.
Attends SafetyCare training
Education and Experience
High school diploma and some college/work experience preferred.
One to three years of relevant experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
Light to medium physical effort is generally required in performing the duties of this position.
Standing, sitting, bending, and lifting as needed and the capability to physically assist students.
