Job Description
Job Title: Electrical Engineering Apprentice
Location: Port of Grangemouth
Compensation: £16,340
Start Date: 1st July 2025
Forth Ports is one of the UK's largest and most dynamic port operator groups, playing a key role in connecting the UK with Europe and beyond. As a multimodal ports owner and operator, we are at the forefront of delivering innovative port-related services. With our recent pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2032 and Net Zero status by 2042, we are committed to sustainability and driving the expansion of the UK's renewable energy sector, particularly offshore wind.
We are proud to have hired Apprentices into our business for over 4 decades, and they remain an integral part of our talent pipeline. We are once again excited to be adding a number of Modern Apprentices to our workforce in 2025.
At Forth Ports, we’re offering motivated individuals the chance to kick-start their careers with our electrical engineering apprenticeship. Over 4 years, you will gain a strong foundation in electrical engineering through a combination of college-based learning and hands-on experience, working on a variety of electrical systems while developing problem-solving skills and work towards a HNC Electrical Engineering qualification—all while earning as you learn.
We will hold our assessment day for this role at the Port of Grangemouth where you will have the chance to meet some of the team and to find out more about the role and the apprenticeship.
About The Role
What you will learn:
You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our electrical systems and equipment. You’ll be responsible for performing maintenance on various electrical components, equipment, and assets across the site. Your day-to-day tasks will include fault-finding, testing, and troubleshooting asset and machinery breakdowns to minimise downtime. You’ll also have the chance to work with a wide range of equipment, from low voltage systems and PLC controls to cranes and material handlers.
In addition to hands-on maintenance, you’ll support our teams to improve port performance and efficiency. This includes maintaining accurate documentation of work, ensuring everything is compliant with safety regulations. By following Health & Safety best practices, you’ll operate safely and help uphold the highest standards across the business.
Throughout the program, you’ll build essential skills such as reading technical drawings, understanding electrical regulations, and safely isolating equipment.
