Full Time Nightshift Transport Operator / Planner

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Operator who is enthusiastic and driven to join our bulk transport business. Our bulk transport business unit is a leading provider of bulk transport to the whisky and general spirits industry. With a fleet of over 100 vehicles and 500 trailers, our dedicated team services most, if not all, the major drinks companies.
This role will be primarily based on-site at our head office in Springburn, Glasgow. You will be overseeing our transport operations through night hours, ensuring all planned movements are achieved in line with requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Effective management and planning of drivers through ongoing communication and using our state-of-the-art transport software.
2. Controlling and planning an agreed amount of resources (vehicles, drivers, trailers); ensuring all legal requirements are adhered to (Working Time Directive and EU Drivers’ Hours regulations).
3. Ensuring the nightly plan is completed in real-time, managing resources effectively, maximizing utilization while minimizing cost.
4. Keeping our internal tracking systems organized and updated to an exceptional standard.
5. Maintaining driver and fleet compliance at all times.
6. Regularly using in-house planning tools and systems to manage workload and monitor efficiency.
7. Understanding and achieving key performance targets relating to the safety and efficiency of our fleet (including utilization and costing).
8. Managing the fleet to ensure all maintenance is actioned in accordance with schedules.
Our Ideal Candidate:
1. Excellent people management skills, preferably with experience in a unionized environment.
2. Confident individual with the ability to work on your own initiative.
3. Good geographical knowledge and transport planning.
4. Comfortable dealing with accident and incident investigation.
5. Experienced at using vehicle telematics systems to improve fleet efficiency and utilization.
6. Sound knowledge of transport legislation and operational health and safety.
7. Good communication and written skills, comfortable interfacing with customers.
8. Confident in the use of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, PowerPoint) and experienced in using transport management systems.
9. Strong desire to develop and learn.
10. Manager's CPC qualification desirable; however, it is not a set requirement for the role.
11. Class 1 driving license desirable; however, it is not a set requirement for the role.
12. Ability to comfortably organize your own workload and work in a pressurized environment to meet key deadlines.
What is on offer?
You will normally work 44 hours per week, Monday to Thursday. This is exclusive of a 1-hour unpaid break. Flexibility within working hours would be advantageous as our business operates seven days per week across the year.
