Our client based in Chester is currently recruiting a Health and Safety Coordinator on a permanent basis. As the Health and Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for promoting, maintaining, and developing all Health & Safety Activities at our client. Assisting the Department Manager with H&S compliance, H&S training, environmental management, and driving continuous improvement around all aspects of H&S and environmental management.
Performance Objectives
1. Planning, organising, implementing, auditing, monitoring, reviewing H&S procedures.
2. Managing, monitoring, and ensuring the corrective action log is up to date and actions are closed out.
3. Completing safety audits, ensuring the schedule is up to date and actions/breaches closed out.
4. Completing inspections of shadow boards, first aid supplies, fire equipment, racking damages, fire doors, and PPE.
5. Monitoring and reviewing the risk assessment program.
6. Completing all risk assessments with relevant Line Managers as per schedule.
7. Ensuring that all risk assessments are logged, and actions completed within timescales.
8. Arranging regular meetings with departmental managers to discuss the progress of actions.
9. Improving, developing, and managing inductions, permits to work, evidence of competence, and competency records.
10. Driving continual improvement programs through training/up-skilling to ensure achievement of the Health, Safety, and environment agenda.
11. Identifying, prioritising, and maintaining the H&S training system, database, and documentation, ensuring the organisation is compliant against H&S training.
12. Conducting weekly fire alarm testing.
13. Issuing and recording of PPE, stock takes, and ordering within agreed budget threshold.
14. Participating actively in the monthly SHE meetings, ensuring engagement from all stakeholder departments.
15. Ensuring that robust documentation is complete, available, and compliant for customer and regulatory bodies for audits & visits.
16. Assisting the SHE Manager in developing a behavioural safety programme.
17. Ensuring Fire Safety standards are maintained and fire risk assessments completed.
18. Coaching the Shift Managers and Senior Leadership team to develop their health, safety, and environmental knowledge, awareness of their responsibilities, and adopt best practices.
19. Supporting health, safety, and environmental training initiatives, identifying training needs, and identifying training solutions as required (e.g., manual handling, induction, COSHH, LOTO, safe systems of work, toolbox talks, etc.).
20. Working closely with internal functions to effectively deliver the health & safety and environmental agenda.
21. Managing and maintaining the company crisis management plan.
22. Ensuring all accidents and incidents are investigated and actioned appropriately.
23. Collecting data and preparing reports to monitor performance of accidents, incidents & near misses.
24. Supporting the maintenance of the Environmental Management System (ISO14001:15) and Zero Waste to Landfill Certification, ensuring full compliance against the standards.
25. Ensuring aspects & impacts register and internal EMS auditing.
26. Assisting the SHE Manager with the monitoring and submission of emissions (all scopes).
27. Managing waste, ensuring full compliance against all aspects.
28. Completing internal environmental audits against various functions, including the EMS system.
Person Specification
1. NEBOSH General Certificate in occupational H&S and Environmental Management is required for this role.
2. Experience of operating in a manufacturing environment (food manufacturing experience and an awareness of food safety legislation).
3. Able to identify trends, patterns around accidents/incidents/near misses and apply root cause analysis and critical thinking to resolve problems.
4. Experience in ISO systems such as ISO14001:15 & ISO45001.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
6. Computer literate with experience of MS packages, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
7. Organised, methodical, systematic with an eye for detail.
8. Team player with experience of cross-functional team working.
9. Relentless/tenacious/proactive in follow-up with the ability to close the loop.
10. Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of health & safety and environmental compliance & legislation.
