MetLase provides bespoke engineering solutions to complex problems where precision and speed of deployment are critical. Using patented techniques developed within the Aerospace sector, MetLase technologies are now being applied across multiple manufacturing industries such as automotive, construction, defence, energy, and renewables.
We are now recruiting for a Mechatronics Engineer to be responsible for delivering electro-mechanical design solutions to customer projects that are robust and meet functional performance requirements. The role is focused on solving complex robotic and electro-mechanical problems; preparing both concept and detailed solution designs; and delivering manufactured prototypes, as well as industrial-grade systems ready for customer use. The role will also periodically offer technical support to the quoting process and sales team, to understand the effort, technical complexity, and risks associated with customer proposed projects.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
1. The timely delivery of electro-mechanical design projects, working with customers and their engineering departments, to ensure the realised engineering solution meets specification, functional, and business performance requirements.
2. The robust and maintainable coding of robotic and automation controls systems to achieve the designed behaviours of the electro-mechanical with the delivered engineering solution.
3. Undertaking the end-to-end design and development of innovative engineering electro-mechanical solutions and devices; from concept to operation including: system specification, definition, prototyping, manufacture, testing, installation, and on-site commissioning.
4. Producing drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports which may include performance and failure investigation.
5. Self-Building and/or supporting workshop technicians in the manufacture of the designed solutions, to ensure quality and safety is maintained.
6. Support sales and business development colleagues through the assessment of technical, time, and material requirements for future projects, as part of customer quotation process.
7. Collaboration and supporting with other engineers and engineering project teams with expertise in electro-mechanical design.
8. Design and validate automation safety systems to ensure that designed systems robustly comply with legal and customer requirements.
Candidates must hold a relevant engineering degree and be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:
1. Delivering electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic projects from initial enquiry to installation, working with customers and other stakeholders to oversee the realisation of industrially robust manufacturing systems.
2. Significant use of CAD systems preferably NX.
3. Design advanced electromechanical systems for the automation of industrial tasks that could include embedded software for microcontrollers, PLCs, and Industrial PCs.
4. Research, select, and apply sensor, actuation, and communication technologies for a range of challenging customer-specified problems.
5. Design and develop control algorithms for electromechanical or pneumatic devices or systems based on signal processing practices.
6. Implement, test, and validate design solutions against project and regulatory requirements. Produce CE, SOPS and other associated documentation for parts, assemblies, or finished products.
7. Ability to provide support to the wider engineering solutions team on other projects on topics such as robotics, mechatronics, or automated control.
8. Ability to review safety automation system requirements, with experience in producing Safety Integrity level compliant systems and safety categories.
9. Proficient in object-oriented software languages such as Python, C++, or JavaScript.
10. A high degree of initiative and strong problem-solving capability.
11. Practical manufacturing or assembly experience.
12. The ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a member of a high-performance team.
As part of their day-to-day duties the Mechatronics Engineer is expected to work closely with Design Engineers, the Manufacturing team, and the sales team, therefore candidates will need good communication skills, organisation skills, and team working skills.
