Key Accountabilities: 1. Provide effective leadership, clear direction and support to IPU/WAH teams, promoting a culture of innovation, flexibility and high performance within the team. 2. Deputise for the Matron as appropriate. 3. Work proactively with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality, evidence-based Specialist Palliative nursing care is delivered on IPU/WAH. 4. Alongside the multi-disciplinary team actively promote a culture of holistic patient care on IPU/WAH, ensuring the physical, psychological, emotional, social, spiritual beliefs of patients are met. 5. Responsibility for the line management of the IPU/WAH team, to include - recruitment and effective on-boarding; ongoing support and feedback through monthly 121s; identify and manage development and performance through PDPs; Clinical Supervision; leading or supporting any formal processes in conjunction with People Services. Support Registered Nurses with their management responsibility, including ensuring 121s are completed and recorded. 6. Undertake the leadership and development of IPU/WAH nurses including - a. Acquisition of excellent evidence-based Specialist Palliative care and symptom management knowledge. b. Identify the need for and facilitate the transfer of skills and knowledge across the teams. c. Support the comprehensive awareness of Specialist Palliative and End of Life care policies and strategies in IPU/WAH. d. Promote collaborative working across the Hospice and the wider health economy. 7. Ensure the highest level of clinical competence of all IPU/WAH staff. Support practice-based competencies and facilitate staff development within the clinical setting, ensuring standardised practice within patient care and System One using the Holistic Assessment Tool. 8. To monitor and ensure the maintenance of adequate and effective discharge planning for patients with complex palliative care needs who are returning into community care. 9. Act as an educator in relation to Specialist Palliative care for patients; formulate, support and deliver formal teaching programmes in collaboration with the Practice Development Department. 10. To provide leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and a role model for specialist practice. 11. Be part of the on call management team taking 24 hour responsibility for all operational aspects of the organisation in line with the On Call Management Guidance. To be part of the Senior Nurse Rota. 12. Contribute to and participate in audit, research, service development and quality initiatives, disseminating findings across the organisation and to the Audit and Quality committee and Clinical Effectiveness groups. 13. In conjunction with the Matron, review or develop relevant clinical policies and processes, working closely with the appropriate teams to support these work streams. 14. Support on the co-ordination of the role of champions and their responsibilities. 15. To act as an initial or final investigator for Vantage reports as designated. Ensure findings and any learning is actioned and embedded in practice. 16. Undertake any additional projects in consultation with the Matron/ AD for Nursing.
