A specialist engineering company focused on the design, manufacture, and repair of propellers for a range of historic aircraft—including models such as the Tiger Moth, Spitfire, and Mustang—is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead its variable pitch propeller overhaul department. Customers span the globe, and the role is essential in ensuring continued service excellence and precision craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Overseeing the entire process of each propeller overhaul.
2. Disassembling and cleaning propellers in preparation for inspection.
3. Conducting visual inspections for wear and damage.
4. Accurately measuring components to ensure compliance with maintenance specifications.
5. Identifying and sourcing replacement parts required for rebuilds.
6. Performing occasional zinc-nickel plating of components.
7. Overhauling propeller blades, including sanding for repainting, conducting frequency checks, and static balancing.
8. Reassembling propellers to precise standards.
9. Maintaining detailed paperwork and records for each overhaul.
10. Supervising and supporting junior team members.
11. Ensuring the workshop is kept clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
12. Due to the nature of a small business environment, there may be opportunities to contribute to other areas of the company, depending on the candidate’s skillset and interest.
Candidate Profile:
1. Strong foundation in mechanical engineering.
2. Hands-on experience with mechanical tools and workshop procedures.
3. Ability to read and interpret technical data, manuals, drawings, and specifications.
4. Proficient in the use of measurement instruments including verniers, micrometers, and height gauges.
5. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player.
6. Previous aerospace experience is advantageous but not essential.
