This form allows you to indicate your interest in communications roles at CEA. We review these applications on a rolling basis, and we'll contact you if we think you'd be a good fit for a role on the communications team.
Note: As this is an expression of interest rather than a formal application, by default we won’t reach out unless we’re advancing your application, and we might not advance applications right away. While we will carefully review all submissions, we do not plan to respond individually to each expression of interest.
About the communications team
Both EA and CEA are at important inflection points. Public awareness of EA has grown significantly, and EA has had both major success and significant controversies. To match this growth in awareness, we're looking to increase our capacity to inform public narratives about and contribute to a more accurate understanding of EA ideas and impact. The stakes are high: Success could result in significantly higher engagement with EA ideas, leading to career changes, donations, new projects, and increased traction in a range of fields. Failure could result in long-lasting damage to the brand, the ideas, and the people who have historically associated with them.
We're interested in growing our communications team to meet these challenges. While we have outlined some potential roles below, we are open to a wide range of skillsets as we build out our communications function. If you have specialized skills in another area of communications that is not listed, please let us know in your application.
Potential communications roles
Head of Communications
1. This is a senior leadership position reporting to the CEO. The remit of the role is broad, including developing and executing communications strategies for both CEA and effective altruism more broadly.
2. We anticipate that this individual will become the foremost leader for strategic communications related to EA and will have a significant impact in shaping the field's strategy.
3. This will include collaborating with senior leaders at other organizations doing EA-related work.
Media relations
1. In a media relations role, you would help execute and support CEA's media strategy.
2. The ideal candidate would have experience engaging with the press and/or have other areas of communications expertise.
3. You will also help decide how to respond to media inquiries. Reporters frequently contact CEA to ask questions about EA; your approach to engaging with them will impact media perceptions.
Marketing
1. In a marketing role, you would help us improve and scale CEA's marketing efforts.
2. This could include aspects of digital marketing, influencer marketing, copywriting, and design.
3. This could also include scoping new marketing channels and initiatives.
Content
1. In a content role, you would work on CEA's owned media projects.
2. You would produce regular, high-quality content that supports strategic goals like reaching target audiences and balancing cause area representation.
3. This could include many different types of responsibilities, including managing our content calendar and workflows, social media management, writing on behalf of CEA and individual teams, and developing your own voice and creative content.
We recommend that you apply even if you’re not sure if you’re a good fit. We aim to make this first step as simple as possible; you won’t have to invest much time. Many of CEA’s strongest contributors thought they were longshot candidates.
