Job overview
· To support the Sleep service.
· To provide treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea patients.
· To support the patient in managing their condition with appropriate equipment e.g. CPAP.
· To perform sleep studies and respiratory investigations on referred patients under the supervision of the Chest Physicians.
· To act as a resource to all members of staff in relation to Sleep Apnoea.
· To maintain accurate health records and follow up for patients.
· The department will work flexibly and incorporate new treatments in line with best practice guidance.
Main duties of the job
* Post holder must be aware of and adhere to Code of Professional Conduct.
* To act as a resource / adviser in the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
* Act as a resource advisor to patients and staff ensuring continuous provision of evidence based care.
* To participate in developing protocols, standard setting and clinical audits within the framework of quality assurance.
* To participate in implementing and evaluating relevant research findings in the care and management of Sleep Apnoea.
* Initiate audit to promote evidenced based change in practice.
* To maintain accurate records in line with the trust policies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Work alongside the Respiratory Consultants to provide and co-ordinate a Specialist Sleep Health Advice / Apnoea service.
* Undertake and develop a nurse-led CPAP clinic for review of patients who are established on CPAP and manage the case load effectively.
* Setting patients up on CPAP with their consent, performing CPAP titration, supporting patients using CPAP and assessing compliance, download and interpret results from machine.
* To instruct the patient in the use of a sleep study machine, organising and carrying out overnight sleep studies, (overnight oximetry, and overnight multi-channel sleep studies).
* To educate patients in order for them to make informed decisions regarding the management of their condition.
* Providing support and relevant education to patients with sleep related disorders.
* To produce an individual care plan, to undertake a full clinical and social assessment of the patient.
Person specification
Professional Registration
* 1st level Current N.M.C. Registration ENB998 or equivalent OR Diploma in Professional Practice or Bsc Clinical physiology or Bsc physiotherapy and registration with the HPC.
* Specialist qualification ie: ARTP Basic Course and the Advanced course in Sleep Breathing Disorders Working towards a Degree.
Experience/Qualifications
* Specialist knowledge of a range of respiratory conditions, especially sleep disorders.
Skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Professional manner.
