Telford & Wrekin Library Service is looking for a keen individual to join the team to support the purchase, administration and development of lending book stock across the borough. This role is a mix of office-based at Darby House, working at libraries across the borough and includes opportunities for working from home. Brief overview of the role: This part-time role is 22.2 hours per week, equivalent to three days, between Monday – Friday The library service is a valued resource within the community. This role provides support to keeping our council and community managed-libraries stocked with books and all the support functions that surround that to meet the needs of our customers. Duties will include: Liaise with the branch network (council and community) to evaluate stock requirements and ensure purchasing is in line with customer demand. Actively assist community libraries to manage their book stock, assessing suitability for keeping books on the shelves or removing for disposal. Set up and maintain supplier selection systems with stock suppliers and liaise with suppliers on all aspects of the stock purchasing process. This will include the management of EDI systems to stock suppliers, and troubleshooting when orders are unsuccessful or incomplete. Delegated responsibility for parts of the resources (book) fund. Management of standing orders for specific stock areas with specialist suppliers. Handle procedures for outstanding stock reservations by ensuring steps are taken to fulfil or delete these reservations. Manage 'not in stock' requests from customers and library staff. Undertake regular generic team activities, such as answering enquiries and using social media to promote stock. Lead on procedures for the disposal of discarded book stock using a variety of methods and services, and giving advice and guidance to community-managed libraries on best practice and support. Assist with the preparation and evaluation of issue figure statistics. Skills and experience: Candidates must: Be knowledgeable about books, reading and libraries. Have experience of dealing with a wide range of people and organisations, including external customers and suppliers. Be able to work accurately at times under pressure. Have the ability to input and analyse data, and interrogate databases to produce accurate reports. Have experience of Office365 and other core business software. Experience of library stock processes or of working in a library environment would be desirable but not essential.
