An exciting opportunity has arisen within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust for a number of Children's qualified nurses to join the current Paediatric diabetes team.
We have a permanent post and also a number of fixed term maternity cover posts. The successful candidates will be required to work in collaboration with the Diabetes MDT ensuring safe, effective Diabetes care to children and young people.
The Diabetes team is a well-established service with responsibility for over 500 speciality patients. This is an excellent opportunity to develop clinical, educational and communication skills. It is anticipated induction and training for successful applicants will be required but we hope to attract candidates with a working knowledge of Diabetes.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can demonstrate the ability to lone work, troubleshoot and communicate well with the MDT, children and their families.
This role is worked across Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
Our successful candidates will provide specialist nursing advice to a cohort of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support for Diabetes.
You will offer support and education in relation to management of Diabetes and care in the community including school settings.
You will practice under the direction of the Diabetes nursing lead, service lead and the Consultant team and work towards achieving agreed levels of competence, skills and knowledge.
The Diabetes service uses a range of techniques to ensure and monitor good standards of clinical practice, audit and teaching. Education consists of a bespoke package of the management of childhood diabetes for children, young people, their families and their carers. This role also involves educating and supporting the clinical teams in inpatient and assessment areas.
Using agreed pathways the successful candidate will support young people through their transitional care to adult Diabetes services.
It is essential that applicants have regular access to their own vehicle for cross site working and community visits.

* *Registered Child Nurse on the NMC Register
* *Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree level
* *Recognised mentorship course
* *Willingness to undertake training and education to support the role of Non-medical prescriber
Experience

* *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
* *Significant post registration experience with evidence of passion/enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
