Our Enfield, London site is currently looking for a Transport Controller reporting into Head of Logistics on a full time permanent basis.
ROLE
To oversee and manage the transport activities at our Enfield site while providing essential support to the Head of Logistics. The Transport Controller will ensure the smooth operation of the Enfield transport office, overseeing planned routes and maintaining fleet efficiency and safety. Key responsibilities include facilitating excellent communication with the driver team, arranging and planning essential fleet maintenance to minimise downtime, and ensuring safe operations in collaboration with our fleet providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conducting full debrief of returning drivers, collating all invoices and collection notes for return to Derby the next working day.
* Ensuring full adherence to the Optimo Routeing schedule, completing all drops, reporting issues to Derby Sales, and providing necessary training to drivers.
* Controlling all transport team activities, including recruitment, disciplinary actions, holiday bookings, absence management, rota preparation, and handling pay and bonus issues.
* Monitoring clocking reports to ensure all transport staff clock in and out daily.
* Undertaking monthly vehicle audits at Enfield, completing associated paperwork, and responding to reported defects.
* Collating and monitoring working hours, providing statistical data to ensure compliance with the Road Transport Directive and other legislation.
* Compiling, agreeing, and monitoring practical and measurable KPIs for the site’s transport operation.
* Conducting PDP processes for all team members.
* Controlling, monitoring, and reporting on tray reconciliation for the Enfield site, accounting for trays left at customers and sent to Derby.
* Conducting driving licence checks twice annually using the government portal and hard copy of the licence.
* Identifying and delivering training needs within the transport operation, ensuring all staff complete required IHASCO training.
* Ensuring health and safety compliance for workplace and off-site transport activities, including completing risk assessments.
* Investigating all accidents and near misses (both vehicles and employees), completing company accident forms for submission to insurers, and managing resources to cover holidays, sickness, and absences.
* Working hours will vary according to business activity and holiday rotas, with occasional Saturday work required.
* Ensuring familiarisation with AX, Optimo, MS Office, The People Hub, and the FFM Report Manager application.
* Managing holiday requests for the Enfield transport department, updating the People Hub daily, and ensuring all annual holidays are taken by year-end.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Extensive experience supervising a busy transport operation (preferably multi temperature food transport).
* High quality leadership skills
* Effective communication skills, both written and oral
* Must have a good solid geographic knowledge of the UK, especially London and the Southeast.
* Good knowledge of MS Office (including Outlook, Excel, and Word) essential.
