Subsea Pipeline Engineer
Location: Aberdeen
Type: Contract OR staff Salary
Reports To: Pipeline and Bundle Discipline Manager & Design Team Lead
Key Responsibilities:
As a Subsea Pipeline Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and services required to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions. You will work across studies, tenders, and projects, providing technical expertise in subsea pipeline design and analysis.
* Technical Expertise in Pipeline Engineering:
* Deliver expertise in rigid subsea pipeline engineering, including adherence to relevant design codes (DNV-ST-F101, PD 8010-2), legislative requirements, client specifications, and best industry practices.
* Conduct detailed subsea pipeline analysis using advanced tools and software like Abaqus, DNV tools, Mathcad spreadsheets, or similar.
* Take responsibility for producing high-quality deliverables such as design reports, calculation sheets, finite element analysis (FEA), and engineering checks.
* Project and Stakeholder Collaboration:
* Provide engineering support to tendering teams, project teams, the field development group, and other key stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
* Collaborate with internal teams, including project engineering managers, engineering departments, and supply chain management, to meet project requirements.
* Manage external and internal interfaces, including clients and subcontractors, ensuring effective communication and alignment of project goals.
* Process Adherence and Innovation:
* Operate within standardized engineering processes and systems as outlined in the Business Management and Knowledge Management Centers.
* Ensure compliance with all safety objectives and relevant legislation for subsea pipeline projects.
* Contribute to the “Pipeline and Bundle Department” know-how consolidation, proposing innovative solutions to reduce costs and risks.
* Mentoring and Leadership:
* Actively mentor and support junior and graduate engineers, fostering a learning environment and contributing to the professional growth of the team.
* Share technical knowledge and encourage best practices in subsea pipeline engineering.
Required Skills and Experience:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following:
* Education:
* Educated to degree level or higher in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it) is preferred.
* Technical Expertise:
* In-depth knowledge of subsea pipeline engineering, including design codes (DNV-ST-F101, PD 8010-2), standards, recommended practices, and relevant software tools.
* Experience with pipeline in-place design, both for exposed and buried pipelines, as well as trawling analysis.
* Proven expertise in FEA-based design and analysis using software such as ABAQUS.
* Familiarity with scripting or programming (Python / VBA) or general software development is a plus.
* Project Delivery Experience:
* Hands-on experience delivering pipeline engineering projects, from design to execution, within defined budget and schedule constraints.
* Ability to work effectively across multiple projects and collaborate with various departments.
