Head Of Underwriting - Bridging Finance

Due to exciting growth and expansion, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Underwriting to join a specialist Property Lending company based in London. Specializing in bridging finance, you will be working closely with clients, brokers and internal teams to streamline the underwriting process whilst also managing a team of 15 Underwriters and Case Managers. My client completes over £30 million of lending a month; candidates must have underwriting experience and management experience within bridging lending.
Duties of the Underwriter (Bridging Finance) include:
1. Responsible for conducting comprehensive analyses of financial documents, credit histories, and property appraisals to make informed lending decisions.
2. Managing the team/personal loan pipeline, adhering to SLAs, conducting KYC, AML, and due diligence checks.
3. Review legal documents, valuation reports, and perform key checks (land registry, credit).
4. Underwrite loan applications following credit risk policy, assess risks across the property cycle, and support decisions on loan values and terms.
5. Present loan funding proposals to Line Manager and assist senior underwriters with complex cases.
6. Ensure fraud prevention, support the loan offer process, and execute transactions within agreed timelines.
7. Build and manage a network of brokers and borrowers, providing ongoing contact and exceptional customer service.
8. Communicate with external stakeholders during the loan funding process and mentor junior underwriters.
9. Deliver MI to management, update CRM (Hubspot), and identify new lending opportunities to meet personal targets.
10. Attend meetings, share best practices, and act as a company ambassador.
Requirements for the successful Underwriter (Bridging Finance):
1. Previous experience working within Bridging Underwriting.
2. Previous experience managing underwriters and Case Managers.
3. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and assess risks accurately and effectively.
4. Excellent communication abilities with strong written and verbal skills.
5. Strong MS Excel abilities.
6. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks as part of a busy workload.
