We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated staff nurses to join our well established and friendly team on the Day Surgery Unit (day shift) and Escalation ward (Night duty). It is a very busy, fast paced unit and we care for patients having a variety of surgical conditions, including general surgery, urology, plastics, gynaecology, orthopaedics and oral surgery – meaning no two days are the same. You will be actively involved in our patient’s pathway, from admitting and preparing the patient for surgery to leading their recovery and discharge.

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care without direct supervision.
* To work within a team and assist in monitoring the performance and work of the Nursing Team, providing education and support as appropriate.
* Responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
* To participate and assist in systematic monitoring and evaluation of nursing practice.
* To participate and assist in setting standards of patient care based on sound evidence-based findings, implementing these into practice.
* Ensure that the nursing practices of the area comply with the Trust’s Nursing policies and procedures and maintain high standards of nursing practice.
* To always comply with the NMC Code of Conduct.
* Communicate effectively and liaise with all healthcare staff as appropriate.
* To encourage and maintain good relationships with Medical Staff and other members of the Primary care & Social Services teams to provide the best care.
* To support the implementation and maintenance of Team Nursing within the clinical area, taking responsibility for a small case-load of patients. Within this system of case management, coordinate and monitor the progress of patients along their critical pathway, reporting any variance from the pathway. Take named responsibility for coordinating individual patient’s discharge.

* Awareness of current professional nursing issues

Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration
Skills & Knowledge
* Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
* Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
* Able to train and supervise junior staff.
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult/stressful situations.
