Due to an expansion of the Learning Disability Service, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to work with individuals who receive support from the Community Enhanced Support Team and the Inpatient Assessment and Treatment Unit.
With direct support from the OT Professional Lead, your role will be to grow and develop an evidence-based OT provision within this service. You will work as part of a dedicated and innovative MDT, where you will help to improve the lives and wellbeing of individuals with a Learning Disability. You will be able to follow the individuals as they transition between the community and inpatient services, offering continuity of care and a client-centred approach throughout. You will use your core OT knowledge to promote participation and independence in Activities of Daily Living, whilst having the opportunity to strengthen and develop specialist areas such as Sensory Integration and Positive Behaviour Support.

Main duties of the job
* To provide high quality, comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for specified service user group with complex needs.
* To work in an interdisciplinary way to assess service user's needs, devise care plans and evaluate outcomes and to carry a caseload as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Provide clinical advice and support for service users that present with behaviour that challenges and require support with their mental health.
* Work directly with service users, carers, colleagues and other service providers.
* Support people during hospital admissions through focused assessment, intervention and support.
* Facilitate and support safe discharge from hospital back into the community.
* Deliver training and education to other professionals/carers/family.
* To develop Occupational Therapy provision within the service with support from the Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist and Professional Lead Occupational Therapist.
Job responsibilities
1. To provide a high quality Occupational Therapy Service and consultation to people within the Essex Specialist Learning Disability Services.
2. To manage a caseload, using evidence based/client principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in clinic, community settings and when in hospital.
3. To provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to a client's formulation, diagnosis and case management plan.
4. To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions using selected and graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
5. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
6. To ensure that clients are consulted and involved in decisions about their care.
7. To maintain clinical records.
8. To develop skills and knowledge.
9. To provide an effective supervision framework for Occupational Therapy staff, and provide regular supervision to allocated OT staff as per Trust policy.
10. To deputise for the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist in Learning Disability services as necessary.
11. To develop Occupational Therapy provision within the service with support from Professional Lead Occupational Therapist.
12. To have responsibility for the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of occupational therapy and interventions within the Service.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION TRAINING
Essential
* BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
* Completion of preceptorship and/or evidence of having met the full KSF Gateway for Band 5 OT's
* Evidence of relevant post grad training.
* Post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting
* Leadership / Management Training or experience
Desirable
* Membership of RCOT, including specialist section
* First line management training
* Practice Placement qualification
* AMPS/ESI/SI training
* Broad base of clinical experience
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential
* Applied experience of providing both individual and group work interventions.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of using the Model of Human Occupation assessment tools, or others appropriate to area.
* Experience of other specialist Occupational Therapy assessment tools, e.g. AMPS, Pool Activity Levels
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience in providing advice, support and clinical supervision to junior staff and/or students
* Applied knowledge of Recovery principles and how these relate to OT
Desirable
* Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disability in a variety of health and social care settings
* Previous experience of having worked at Band 6 level
* Experience in research or audit
