About the Organisation: Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. The Post: An opportunity has arisen in the Public Health Microbiology Division within the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate of PHS. The work of this division aids in the coordinated detection of infectious diseases and characterizes microbial pathogens and their variants to support effective outbreak management, treatments, and interventions.
The Quality and Training Lead will develop, maintain, and improve a new quality management system for the national Pathogen Genomics service. The postholder shall be a subject matter expert responsible for systems training and leading all areas of Quality and Training at a national service level.
The Candidate: The candidate shall have experience in implementing quality management/quality assurance systems. The postholder will develop working relationships and effective communication with a wide range of individuals, both clinical and non-clinical, internal and external to PHS. Strong communication skills are essential for interpreting and preparing timely communications.
The candidate will work closely with Bioinformaticians, clinicians, scientists, data management, and business support colleagues across PHS and will collaborate with Scottish Reference Laboratories, IT partners, Government, and other stakeholders.
Location and Working Pattern: The post is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh, or Central Quay, Glasgow. Hybrid working is currently in place, requiring time spent in both PHS offices and the option to work from home. There will be an expectation to travel to local areas for some meetings and events. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
Flexibility: PHS is a flexible employer and is open to discussing requests for alternative working patterns. During public health emergencies, you may be required to work your normal contracted hours over 7 days, including weekends, to meet service needs.
It is a condition of employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the duration of your employment with PHS.
