We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to shape the technical direction of our Databricks Common Data Platform while ensuring it supports our position as a leading logistics provider in the UK. This hands-on role combines solid technical leadership with strategic systems thinking to drive our data engineering initiatives forward.

You will be accountable for:
Leading by example, through hands-on development and review of a quality Python and SQL codebase
Contributing towards a productive team culture through the adoption of automated CI/CD and testing industry practices
Inputting into planning and estimating work / delivery roadmap
Keeping up to date with Databricks platform developments and maintaining tech currency of internal systems
Ensuring accurate and adequate documentation, and system resilience is maintained
Working with cross-functional teams to contribute towards Evri's data strategy
Identifying and implementing cost optimisation ideas
Coaching and mentoring a distributed team of data engineers across multiple delivery projects
Establishing data governance frameworks for secure handling of delivery information
Identifying opportunities for improvement across all data engineering projects
Managing relationships with stakeholders across operations, technology, and business teams to understand requirements and ensure
Supporting developer interviews
Working directly with the Head of Data Engineering to align the teams work with Evri's strategic objectives
To be successful in this role you will require the following…
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred
8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 1+ years in lead position
Experience leading distributed teams in a hybrid work environment
Expert-level knowledge of Databricks platform for logistics applications
Advanced expertise in Python development for delivery optimization
Mastery of SQL optimization for nationwide logistics operations
Deep understanding of data modelling for parcel tracking and delivery systems
Experience with large-scale logistics data pipeline optimization
Experience with Streaming and Batch Spark workloads
