Binnies are seeking to create a position for an experienced Ecologist with a passion for improving the delivery of ecological services through digital technology.
You will get the opportunity to work on a wide portfolio of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure projects to landscape scale restoration. Our portfolio of work includes flood, coastal and maritime projects and a range of other sectors such as ports, water utilities, transport and renewable power.
One of our newest projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option). SESRO is a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, which is also seeking to provide opportunities to create new habitats and increase biodiversity, as well as providing new leisure and recreation facilities. .
We are a close team and have an active Ecology Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of ecological best practice and innovation. Our ecologists work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams and shape projects to deliver more sustainable solutions and maximise Biodiversity Net Gain.
Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute) and hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, which is a benchmark of our high standards in Ecological and EIA delivery.
About the Role
The role will initially be hybrid – both undertaking general ecology work and leading the national team in terms of digital ecology.
Digital role:
* To develop and deliver Binnies digital ecology services
* Provide technical guidance in the development of digital ecology products and tools with the Geospatial team and other part of business as required
* Provide process guidance and training plans to upskill Ecology Team
* Liaison with other specialist to share skills sets and ensure effective transfer of data to and from other disciplines and training/processes as relevant
* Raise our ecological profile, capability and innovation of our national team, both internally and through conferences etc.
* Support BD and proposals to ensure we are providing the best ecological digital offering.
General Ecology:
* Supporting the Ecology Team Lead and other designated technical leads in their roles. Both in technical delivery of work and team management as required.
* Mentoring and guiding more junior ecologists.
* Providing the checker and reviewer role for ecological deliverables.
* Providing ecological input into planning, HRA and other consents.
* Overseeing protected species licence applications and mitigation.
* Design of habitat restoration/creation schemes and delivering Biodiversity Net Gain.
* Leading ecological survey work as required (within species skillsets).
Qualifications/Requirements
The role is suitable for an experienced Ecology professional with full membership of CIEEM. You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
* have an ecological/environmental related degree;
* be, or be close to achieving, Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist;
* a passion and proven experience in digital products, esp. applying to the field of ecology;
* demonstrate previous innovation through using technology to improve quality or efficiency of deliverables;
* hold a protected species licence or have another ecological specialism;
* proven experience in ecological impact assessment;
* have excellent written and oral communication;
* hold a full UK driving licence;
* previous consultancy experience is desirable.
