Our client based in Belfast, is looking for a Statistical Research Officer to join their team
Job Description:
- This post is based in the section that is responsible for statistics and research relating to Housing. The Housing Team consists of one Deputy Principal and two Assistant Statisticians.
Main duties of the post holder:
To assist in the production and dissemination of National and Official Statistics publications in adherence to the Code of Practice for Statistics. The publications currently produced are the quarterly Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin, the biannual Homeless bulletin, the annual Northern Ireland Housing Statistics publication and a new Official Statistics in development publication on Energy Performance Certificates in domestic dwellings in Northern Ireland. Responsibilities will include:
- Liaising with data providers to co-ordinate data collection and quality assuring the data,
- Compiling tables, graphs and commentary for the publication,
- Quality assuring the final publication, producing draft ministerial briefs, and press releases.
- Continuous improvement to the publication with regards to accessibility, coherence and quality.
- Collect, monitor and act upon user feedback via the User engagement survey.
- To liaise with the Cross Government UK Housing Statistics Working Group and the Cross UK Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Working Group to ensure NI statistics are accurately presented in any UK articles produced and to apply knowledge of analysis carried out in other regions to further develop NI statistics and research in housing.
- To assist in the monitoring of Housing related indicators within the Programme for Government, including those on the Data Development Agenda.
- To provide input to all stages of the development process for housing related policy, including developing an evidence base to inform business cases and equality impact assessments, advising and reporting on consultation questions, advising on indicators and collection methods for monitoring and developing evaluation tools, including pre and post questionnaires.
- Working with key stakeholders (Housing Division in DfC, NIHE and other NI Departments) to provide statistical analysis and analytical support to a number of housing-related research projects.
- To respond to ad-hoc queries from customers including DfC Housing Division, NIHE and other public bodies as well as the general public
Essential Criteria:
- 5 GCSEs including maths and english (certificate proof required)
- Degree (certificate proof required)
- Second class honours degree which includes modules on statistics.
- Good oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
- Quantitative experience of analysing datasets.
- Good data analysis/presentation and IT skills and the ability to work with a variety of software packages.
- The ability to work effectively within a team whilst also managing their own workload/projects.

- £17.94ph (weekly)
