Job Purpose: The principal purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women using the Maternal Mental Health Clinic, within the Perinatal Mental Health Service. This will be achieved through the following areas of responsibility:
1. Providing a Clinical Psychology service to clients within the Maternal Mental Health Clinic.
2. Caring for a specialist caseload and providing advice to clients, family members, carers, and professionals.
3. Providing clinical supervision for trainees, Counsellors, and volunteers under the direction of the Principal Psychologist.
Supported by senior colleagues, the post holder will be expected to develop clinical skills with this client group.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication and Working Relationships:
1. Clients, family, and carers: Communicate sensitively with clients who may have difficulties in understanding and/or communicating.
2. Multidisciplinary team colleagues: Work closely with colleagues in the integrated Perinatal Mental Health service.
3. Health & social care staff: Communicate complex information regarding assessments and treatment plans.
Senior managers & professional staff: Maintain good working relationships with senior staff and managers across the Trust.
Planning and Organisation:
1. Plan and organise own work within the service setting.
2. Contribute to the development and improvement of psychological services within the Maternal Mental Health Clinic.
Responsibility for Judgement and Analysis:
1. Provide specialist clinical/counselling psychology expertise and advice.
2. Conduct assessments and develop psychological treatment plans.
Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy:
1. Provide expert psychological assessments and interventions for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
2. Make evaluations about risk management and demonstrate awareness of diversity issues.
Consultation & Guidance: Provide advice on psychological aspects of client care.
Policy, Service, Research, Innovation and Improvement:
1. Support policy changes and service development within the Perinatal Mental Health Service.
2. Engage in R&D activities of the Perinatal Mental Health Service.
Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources: Ensure the safe keeping of equipment used.
Responsibility for Supervision, Leadership and Management:
1. Supervise the work of assistants, trainees, and volunteers.
2. Support placements for trainee staff.
Information Resources and Administrative Duties:
1. Maintain accurate records compliant with Trust Practice Standards.
2. Manage email communications effectively.
Responsibility for Research and Development:
1. Utilise evidence-based literature to support practice.
2. Participate in service audits and relevant research projects.
Freedom to Act: Accountable for professional actions within Trust policies and guidelines.
Any Other Specific Tasks Required: Ensure all clinical care is provided under appropriate supervision.
