Applications are invited to apply for a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a new post offering 10 programmed activities. Additional programmed activities may be available, but these are subject to annual discussion and agreement and do not form part of the underlying contractual agreement.
An obstetric interest (high risk pregnancy, maternal medicine, fetal medicine) would be helpful. Potential applicants are invited to discuss areas of sub-specialty interest with clinical managers at the Trust prior to application.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.
Main duties of the job
* To develop an area of special interest in Obstetric
* To participate in Consultant Labour Ward and emergency gynaecology cover and on-call as per the rota
* The successful candidate will be expected to be motivated and committed to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services.
* Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education.
Job responsibilities
There are 13 Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 5 Specialist Trainees and 11 Trust Doctors at registrar level. There is a 2 tier registrar rota during the day and night. The approximate number of births is around 4000.
The appointee will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest (high risk pregnancy, maternal medicine, fetal medicine) and will have 1 in 12 on-call rota commitments including Labour Ward hot week (1 in 12) and an Emergency Gynae hot week (1 in 13, AM session only).

Person Specification
Qualifications/Registrations
* Full GMC registration
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* Further Higher Degree
Experience/training
* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST
* Candidates will be encouraged to maintain or develop a subspecialty skill: ATSM in Obstetric Medicine, Fetal Medicine, High Risk pregnancy
Knowledge
* Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
* Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
* Understanding of clinical risk management and governance
* IT Skills
* Breadth of experience within and outside specialty
Clinical Skill
* Clinical skills and experience to undertake a consultant post in NHS
Communication Skills and Teaching
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
* Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
* Ability to work constructively in a team environment
* Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients
* A proven background in organising and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research with evidence of training for the role is highly desirable
* A qualification in Medical Education, such as a Diploma
Leadership Skills
* To motivate and develop both medical staff and non-medical staff
* Ability to identify and implement service development and change
* Interest in Medical management
Other Requirements
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* To balance individual requirements against those of the Division and Trust as a whole
* Ability and desire to take part in Clinical Directorate management
