Apprentice Manufacturing Technician
The opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Manufacturing Technician to join our onsite Equipment Engineering team in Southampton. If you have ever wondered what the machines that build parts for satellites look like, this is the job for you.
We build, test, repair, install, and decommission equipment from basic handheld voltmeters to Electron-beam deposition machines. If you have an interest in learning a broad range of engineering skills including electrical, electronic, mechanical, vacuum systems, pneumatic, lasers, software, and hydraulics in a predominantly hands-on role, this could be the job for you!
What you will do as an Apprentice Manufacturing Technician:
Your main activities may include, but are not limited to:
* Solve daily manufacturing problems
* Conduct non-conformance investigations and problem-solving techniques
* Deal with external suppliers
* Write/update process instructions
* Carry out repairs of electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment
* Perform planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of processing equipment
* Ensure equipment safety and compliance in line with Health and Safety regulations
* Work towards Leonardo sustainability and climate goals
* Represent Leonardo at local STEM events
You will attend college one day a week to complete a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ).
Salary: £17,850
What we need from you:
You really must have:
* 2 x GCSE grades 3 - 9 or grades A - D, or equivalent (e.g., Functional Skills Level 2), Mandatory: English & Maths or equivalent
* Good communication skills (written & verbal)
* Ability to work as part of a small team
* Demonstrate a hands-on approach to work
* Good time management skills
* Eye for detail
* Conscientious and keen to learn
It would be nice if you had:
* A working knowledge of MS (Word and Excel), and general IT skills
* Knowledge of programming (C or Python)
* Knowledge of CAD
* Knowledge/experience of engineering
* Calibration and repair of commercial and bespoke test equipment
You must be eligible for full security clearance.
