Description Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets. As a member of the technical writing division, you will write, review and produce single books or individual chapters, appendices, etc. of product user documentation and/or courseware. Obtain data and information from the appropriate source e.g. technical staff and exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Duties and tasks are standard with some variation; displays understanding of roles, processes and procedures. Performs moderately complex problem solving with assistance and guidance in understanding and applying company policies and processes. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 1 year of software engineering or related experience. Responsibilities Oracle is seeking a Technical Writer to help create high-quality technical documentation for its Hospitality applications. Our documentation plays a vital role in getting our customers set up quickly and helps increase their knowledge base so they can use our services more efficiently. As a member of our team, your responsibilities will include creating conceptual information and step-by-step procedures for our users. On a regular basis, you will communicate with developers and foster relationships with global team members. You will work independently, make decisions, and communicate progress. On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be asked to: Manage your time and utilize your organizational skills, demonstrating an ability to multitask and be flexible. Gather information to support documentation development through interviews, on-and offline research, and software usage. Follow Oracle writing and formatting standards and templates. Use excellent writing, interviewing, proofreading and organizational skills. Participate in team meetings. Work closely with the strategy and development team to incorporate new material into end user documentation. Present technical information by using screen captures, tables, lists, and graphics. Work according to a project plan. Understand technical information such as functional, technical, and detail design specifications. Work with publishing tools created by and run by the Oracle Documentation Engineering team and the My Oracle Support team. Understand the technical details and standards of authoring and publishing processes and knows who to contact for particular types of questions. Be familiar with the accessibility guidelines and the methods of meeting them and help writers to make their docs accessible. Help writers troubleshoot issues in version control, builds, authoring, and publishing. The ideal candidate has: 3 years of technical writer experience. 5 years of technical writer experience is preferred. Experience in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, and Version Control Systems. Experience with Arbortext Editor and Camtasia is highly desirable. Experience with Agile methods. Experience with DITA and XML authoring and publishing. Excellent written and conversational skills. A strong, positive work ethic as demonstrated by initiative, adaptability, independence, and the desire to produce a quality product. An excellent team player who can work on complex projects individually or with a group of other global technical writers. Ability to work under tight deadlines and on multiple projects.
