Outline of the role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for monitoring the control of costs, maximising revenue, minimising liabilities, and maintaining the required standard of financial recording on a variety of projects. Provide commercial support to the delivery teams with the design and construction of the projects in line with time, cost, quality, carbon, HSE, and custom.
As a Quantity Surveyor, your duties will include:
1. Achieving the appropriate commercial result for projects through the provision of accurate financial reporting.
2. Building and maintaining working relationships with the supply chain and clients.
3. Managing subcontractor supplier accounts, financially and contractually. Monitoring subcontractors against the programme. Negotiating final accounts.
4. Placing supply chain orders in accordance with the procurement schedule.
5. Completing measurements and valuations of work executed, ensuring that they meet the conditions of the contract.
6. Ensuring payments to Subcontractors and Suppliers are made to the terms and work in progress cash targets.
7. Ensuring that Farrans Construction is compliant with all contractual requirements.
8. Monitoring project expenditure against budget.
9. Providing analysis of cost over-run and cost projections.
10. Exploring opportunities to maximise value and minimise cost.
11. Liaising with clients on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims, and additional payments.
12. Identifying legitimate contractual claim situations and preparing suitable documentation for clients.
13. Striving for continuous improvement within the commercial process and your area of responsibility.
14. Abiding by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policy.
Required Skills and Experience
1. Prior pre and post contract experience in a construction QS role working on major projects.
2. Strong understanding of modern building techniques, plant and equipment, and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues.
3. Strong understanding of construction contract conditions.
4. Appreciation of the impact of cost in the completion of a programme and development of construction solutions.
5. Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management or equivalent qualification.
6. Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and database software.
