Role Location The role would be based in Bristol, Brighton, London or Warrington with travel required across the UK for specific project opportunities. Both full and part time working arrangements will be considered. The Role To support our continued organic growth, we are seeking to recruit a member of staff at Senior/Principal Consultant grade to work as part of our team of around 35 air quality specialists based in the UK. In particular, support is required to manage and deliver assessments of industrial air quality emissions and dispersion modelling to support planning and permitting applications. The successful candidate will support a wide range of on-going projects across sectors including transport, energy, industry and government. You will have a client-facing role with responsibility in terms of managing project teams and project delivery. You will lead and contribute to the development of proposals for new work and for large and complex public and private sector tenders. You will be involved in overseeing and delivering stand-alone air quality assessments for new developments, environmental permits, preparing chapters for Environmental Statements including those that form part of Development Consent Order (DCO) applications and undertaking leading edge research projects. You will require detailed practical experience of atmospheric dispersion modelling, particularly for industry and permitting. In addition, you should have a good understanding of ambient air quality monitoring methods for both particulate and gaseous species, and experience reviewing and critically evaluating ambient monitoring results. With this experience you will work with our senior team of experts to train and mentor junior staff and help them develop their knowledge and experience in the sector. Depending on experience, there are opportunities to support our Environmental Policy and Economics Practice. This part of our business provides high quality policy advice, strategic insight as well as scientific, policy and economic analysis in a range of environmental policy areas. These include air quality and emissions and climate change. The team has established positions on a broad range of frameworks with the European Commission and secured work with a wide range of clients including the UK Government, the European Commission, international development banks, environmental NGOs, the UN as well as industry trade associations and companies. Skills and experience we are looking for Essential Significant experience in the technical management of large and complex air quality assessments Expert in atmospheric dispersion modelling, particularly for the assessment of air quality impacts related to industrial emissions Environmental permitting and regulator liaison experience Wide understanding of ambient air quality monitoring methods for both particulate and gaseous species Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Track-record in the consultancy sector with strong customer focus Good communication skills, both orally and in writing Strong technical capability and ability to review and interpret data Full UK driving licence. Desirable Experience of odour assessments and modelling Experience of developing GHG inventories and considering climate change impacts Experience of airport emission inventory development and dispersion modelling Health Impact Assessment experience Stakeholder engagement and public consultation experience Preparation of expert evidence and Expert Witness experience at Public Inquiries. Business Development experience Line Management experience Experience of working with other environmental disciplines including noise and biodiversity Recent programming, machine learning, statistics and optimization experience Experience of leading high-value and high-profile tender submissions Qualifications: Relevant A-Levels or equivalent BSc or higher in an appropriate science-based discipline Membership of relevant professional institutions, such as IAQM will also be taken into account.
