These three roles, in the Property Services Directorate, provide an opportunity for talented individuals to join the Met’s c.47,000 brilliant people and to play their part in delivering a New Met for London.
The Met is seeking three experienced and ambitious senior leaders to join its Property Services Directorate (PSD): Director of Real Estate Development, Director of Real Estate Management and Director of Construction.
These roles are based in London, with the potential to work from various Met sites including Marlowe House, Sidcup DA15 and the Met’s training facility in Hendon, NW9 where PSD have teams located. You will be required to comply with the Met’s Hybrid Working Policy.
Director of Real Estate Development
Reporting to the Director of Property Services and as a member of PSD’s senior leadership team, this role involves overseeing the delivery of a £200 million annual Property Services Capital Investment Programme. This includes high-profile projects such as police station redevelopments, a net-zero initiative, and provision of major training facilities. The role requires extensive leadership experience in property or construction, a strong track record in managing complex supply chains and multi-disciplinary teams, and expertise in driving strategic change within highly sensitive, multi-stakeholder environments. Essential criteria include strategic leadership, exceptional stakeholder management, financial acumen, and a professional qualification (RICS, RIBA, CIOB or equivalent). The role will attract a basic salary in the range of £95,000 - £107,538; a non-pensionable allowance might be payable in addition to basic salary, for a candidate with exceptional and relevant, knowledge, skills and experience
Director of Real Estate Management
Sitting alongside the Director of Real Estate Development, reporting to Director of Property Services, as a member of PSD’s senior leadership team - this role leads all estate, asset, and facilities management activities for the Met’s extensive property portfolio, comprising c.250 buildings across London and beyond. It also includes responsibility for health and safety compliance, managing a team of 60 staff, delivering facilities management, and optimising resources through strategic supplier and stakeholder relationships. Essential criteria include extensive leadership experience in property or construction, expertise in managing large estates and complex supply chains, strong stakeholder management skills, and a professional qualification (RICS, RIBA, or equivalent). The role will attract a basic salary in the range of £95,000 - £107,538; a non-pensionable allowance might be payable in addition to basic salary, for a candidate with exceptional and relevant, knowledge, skills and experience
Director of Construction
Reporting to the Director of Real Estate Development and part of PSD’s Senior Management Team, this role provides strategic leadership for Real Estate Development construction programmes, managing a £50-150 million annual budget and ensuring projects align with the Met’s Estates Strategy. Responsibilities include leading a high-performing team, managing risks and delivering projects that meet resilience, sustainability, and workspace requirements. Essential criteria include extensive leadership experience in property or construction, expertise in managing construction contracts and multi-disciplinary teams, strong stakeholder management skills, and relevant professional qualifications (e.g., RICS, CIBSE, or CIOB). The salary for this role is £83,644 plus Location Allowance of £1,841 & a non-pensionable Location Allowance of £1,000.

They will have a proven record of making tough, effective decisions under pressure, building strong relationships, engaging stakeholders, and navigating complex political dynamics to achieve favourable outcomes.
