Description
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
* High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field of study preferred.
Qualifications:
* Minimum of 3 years of experience with healthcare billing and collections processes; prior supervisory experience preferred.
* Professional certification through HFMA or AAHAM required or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Ability to prioritize duties and communicate directly with patients, physicians, co-workers, and vendors.
* Professional telephone etiquette and effective communication skills.
* Working knowledge of patient accounting in a healthcare setting.
* Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations and best practices, particularly in the area of pre-service financial counseling and patient collections practices.
* Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus.
* Outstanding levels of customer service.
* Self-directed with strong leadership skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supervise and manage the Patient Financial Advocates and Patient Financial Services Representatives.
* Approve estimates that fall outside OSS guidelines.
* Act as liaison with patients regarding insurance and billing matters; handle escalated patient questions and complaints regarding billing and patient estimates.
* Assist in preparing and analyzing statistical reports reflecting key performance measures. Provide Revenue Cycle Senior Manager with weekly and monthly feedback on program performance and continuous improvement efforts.
* Maintain staff schedules for the Patient Financial Advocates and Patient Financial Services team. Run and review productivity and KPI reports for the Billing Call Center.
* Act as point person for OSS financial assistance program and review accounts for financial assistance.
* Make adjustments on accounts $1-$1000.
* Run daily Carepayment reports and assist PFS staff in reconciling accounts.
* Assist with approval of all refund requests less than $1000.
* Serve as payment software superuser and troubleshoot issues with payment software and credit card devices.
* Attend industry conferences and webinars for professional networking opportunities, continuing education, and professional development.
* Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness; propose process improvement initiatives.
* Operate as an integral team member with co-workers, maintaining professionalism and optimal communication.
* Maintain a professional attitude; sensitive to OSS Health’s commitment to outstanding customer service.
* Assist Revenue Cycle Senior Manager in all duties as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supervise Patient Financial Advocates and Patient Financial Services Representatives.
* Coach and mentor staff.
* Support the employment process in conjunction with Human Resources.
* Participate in the orientation of newly hired staff members.
* Develop and maintain ongoing training programs to enhance skills and productivity.
* Provide leadership and direction to staff to promote creative development of ideas.
* Monitor and measure performance of staff, addressing concerns as necessary.
* Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures by staff.
* Make decisions essential to daily operations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians, and the public. Fluency in English is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light physical effort; some standing, walking, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment.
