Role Purpose\n\nAs a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be a core part of our talented team, which selflessly works together to provide high-quality holistic care that positively impacts the lives of children and young people with intellectual disabilities and autism.\n\nYou will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, care, and well-being of the children and young people throughout the night. Your responsibilities will include providing support and supervision to help them feel secure and cared for. This involves maintaining a calm and safe environment, conducting regular welfare checks, and responding to any incidents or emergencies that may arise during your shift.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nSupporting Children and Young People\n\n * Ensure the safety and well-being of all children and young people in the home throughout the night.\n\n * Build trusting and positive relationships with children and young people, offering guidance, advice, and support.\n\n * Conduct regular checks on each child or young person as required, ensuring they are safe, comfortable, and settle\n\nSafety and Wellbeing\n\n * Monitor the safety and well-being of children and young people, identifying and reporting any safeguarding concerns in line with policies and procedures.\n\n * Implement risk assessments and safety plans, ensuring the environment is safe and supportive.\n\n * Respond to any incidents, disruptions, or emergencies during the night, following the home’s safeguarding procedures\n\n * Monitor the premises to ensure security is maintained, reporting concerns to the Oncall manager.\n\n * Be prepared to instigate a physical intervention in accordance with training received and relevant guidance if a child or young person were placing themselves and others in significant danger of harm\n\nDaily Living\n\n * Assist in light domestic tasks as necessary (e.g., tidying communal areas, laundry), ensuring the home is kept clean and ready for daytime activities.\n\nCompliance with Ofsted Standards and legislation:\n\n * Ensure all work practices comply with Ofsted regulations and the organisation’s policies, maintaining high standards of care and support.\n\n * To adhere to all appropriate legislation relating to the care of vulnerable children and young people, especially the Children’s Homes (England) Regulation 2015\n\nRecord Keeping\n\n * Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs of all events, checks, and incidents that occur during the night, ensuring thorough documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.\n\n * Prepare reports and contribute to reviews, ensuring that children's and young people's views on bedtime and sleeping habits are clearly documented.\n\nTeam Collaboration\n\n * Work collaboratively with colleagues, managers, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support tailored to each child and young person’s needs.\n\nPolicy Adherence:\n\n * Adhere to policies on drugs, alcohol, behaviour management, and safeguarding, ensuring children and young people are aware of expectations and consequences.\n\n * Respect the privacy and dignity of children and young people, always maintaining confidentiality.\n\nAdvocacy and Rights:\n\n * Advocate for the rights and needs of children and young people, supporting them to have their voices heard in decisions that affect their lives.\n\nPerson Specification\n\nEssential:\n\n * Level 3 Qualification or working towards or commitment to completing a Children & young people’s workforce diploma and social care pathway – or equivalent\n\n * Experience working with children and young people, preferably within a children’s home.\n\n * Understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people who have additional needs such as intellectual disabilities and autism.\n\n * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust.\n\nDesirable:\n\n * Qualifications in relation to social care or a related field.\n\n * Knowledge of Ofsted regulations and standards for children's homes.\n\n * Knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulation 2015\n\n * First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, or similar certifications.\n\nKey Competencies:\n\n * Empathy and Patience\n\n * Professionalism and Integrity\n\nSpectrum Children and Young People Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
