We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join the Finance Service at North Somerset Council as a Service Accountant who will support the Adult Social Services and Housing Directorate.
The Role
The post is based within the Corporate Services Directorate although is responsible for ensuring and overseeing the effective delivery of financial services to other directorates. As a team we provide a diverse and broad range of management accounting and technical financial services.
This post will provide business partnering services including financial support and advice to budget managers across the directorate and will support the Senior/Principal Accountant focusing on the budget setting, budget monitoring, forecasting, and out-turn reporting processes throughout the year.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Mobile which means you can expect to work in the following way:
0-1 day in the office
Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.
About you
We are ideally looking for a qualified accountant although are willing to support and develop part-qualified accountants who are actively studying and working towards their professional exams. You will have previous experience of working in a finance environment and will have a clear understanding of how to support budget managers throughout the financial year.
As a finance professional you will have an awareness of accounting regulations and internal governance arrangements, understanding how these influence the work that we do. Experience in key activities such as budget monitoring, forecasting and reporting will be an advantage. Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent ICT, presentation and communication skills and have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. The role is primarily working from home so the successful candidate would need to be self-motivated, able to prioritise and manage their workload to meet deadlines. The post is career graded, so starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience as detailed in the supporting Person Specification.
