At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
Fessey House is not your traditional care home. Our 68 bed home comprises of 6 individual purpose built units, each of which includes a kitchen, lounge, and dining room. Our service users are aged 65+, all with cognitive impairment such as Dementia. It is a unique, modern environment, recently extended, with vast landscaped gardens and communal activity rooms for our residents to enjoy.
Fessey House aims to provide a supported living environment where older people can feel safe, secure, and free to live their lives as independently as possible. Privacy, dignity, and the right to make choices are paramount in our approach to providing the highest quality service for those who choose to make Fessey House their home.
Your next role
As a Support Worker, you will complement our current friendly team, providing practical, emotional, and physical support for older people living with dementia and rehabilitation for service users. You will participate in the assessment and care/support planning process while continuously assessing our service users' needs and monitoring the aims, objectives, and outcomes of their individual plans (including administering prescribed medications).
A requirement for this role is that you are aware and comply with Health & Safety, Manual Handling, COSHH, Food Hygiene, Fire, First Aid, and Accident/Incident policies as set down by the organisation. Full training will be given on site to allow you to develop in the role and become a confident care worker. You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
Working with us
We offer a mixture of shift patterns including “earlies” (8:00am start) and “lates” (9:30pm finish) on a rolling 2 week rota with a requirement to work every other weekend. Fessey House is located on Brookdene in Haydon Wick, easily accessible by bus between Orbital Shopping Park and Park North on the number 5 service or between Taw Hill and Middle Wichel on the number 11 service.
Your next Package
We have free parking on site, generous holiday entitlement, comprehensive Learning and Development programmes, an excellent local government pension and sickness schemes, and many other benefits like discounts on shopping, eating out, and entertainment. We also have an Employee Assistance Programme and App to support with legal, health, wellbeing, and other expert advice.
Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don’t meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills, and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.
