We employ around 140 professional engineers and scientists to do this. As a Well Engineering & Operations Inspector, you will apply your experience and knowledge gained while working in the oil and gas well construction and operations sector to the regulation of a wide range of offshore and onshore well engineering and operations activities. Your role will vary enormously in terms of task and pace, ranging from rig site inspections to technical reports. Please note that due to the nature and volume of the work and travel, this role is only suitable for full time working. Job description Key Responsibilities: Provide specialist advice on health and safety matters associated with the topic of well engineering, drilling, and other well operations. To within HSE, industry and other stakeholders. Perform inspections of well notifications for onshore and offshore well operations submitted to HSE. Assess safety cases and inspect combined operations notifications from a well engineering and operations perspective, as part of the offshore safety case permissioning regime. Perform site and HQ inspections with respect to specialist issues arising from well engineering, drilling and other well operations activities both offshore and onshore. Investigate accidents, incidents and complaints alone or as part of a team, both offshore and onshore. Support enforcement action, including preparing technical reports and expert evidence in legal proceedings. Make technical contributions to the development of industry standards and guidance such as being involved in the design and operations of wells. Training & Support From day one, you will be supported by your manager, team and wider colleagues to understand and develop in your role in HSE. We support your continuing professional development directly through training and through stakeholder support and steering. For the legal requirements of the role, you will be enrolled on a legal assessment /Specialist Training Programme during which you will be given time to study for and are required to successfully complete. Relocation Relocation Allowance of up to £8,000 which may be increased to £15,000 in exceptional circumstances. Travel In role, you will spend on average 2-3 night stays offshore (subject to weather) approximately 6-8 times a year for proactive inspection or reactive investigation work, potentially at short notice, all within a small multi-discipline team. Medical Requirements You must be able to satisfy the OEUK approved offshore medical & OPITO approved survival training requirements. (BOSIET/MIST). Person specification Essential Skills and Criteria: A proven track record in managing and contributing to relevant technical projects. Sound practical experience of well engineering with responsibility for planning and managing drilling operations at a senior level. Practical experience with risk assessment and risk management tools. Sound knowledge of well servicing operations, ability to work with other technical disciplines at all levels and, you must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical and survival training. Strong communication skills to influence change at all levels in the organisations we regulate. Sound analytical skills to identify underlying gaps and deficiencies related to risk management. Initiative and decisiveness, making sound decisions based on available evidence. Good organisational and planning skills taking responsibility for delivering expected outcomes on time and to the required standard. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team maintaining positive professional working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. The ability to write effective technical reports and present complex reports and present complex technical information concisely for a non-technical audience Licences You will hold a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010. Qualifications You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or earth science discipline and / or substantial well engineering and operations experience in an operational environment within the upstream offshore oil and gas industry. Memberships Chartered status with the Engineering Council or the ability to work towards it.
