The Modern Foreign Languages Faculty at Rossall School exemplifies the community’s strong commitment to international-mindedness. Mandarin, Spanish, German and French are all offered by the department at Key Stage 3 and 4 as well as in the Sixth Form. Spanish is also offered in the Prep school from Reception age upwards. The department places great emphasis on encouraging pupils to develop an enjoyment of literature, culture and history. Each year a good number of students elect to study languages at universities within the UK or Overseas. Languages constitute a cornerstone of the curriculum at Rossall and the departments are central to the intellectual and cultural life of the School. Annual visits to Spain, France and Germany provide a superb context within which pupils are able to develop their linguistic fluency.
The MFL department is currently undergoing an exciting phase as a new KS3 curriculum is underway. The successful candidate will play a key role in the shaping and development of a creative and challenging curriculum with a focus on developing strong linguists. The department is well resourced with interactive TVs in all classrooms and access to digital platforms to support the teaching of languages. The use of ICT in teaching is enabled and encouraged and all pupils have access to a learning device in the lessons.
