Job Description:
Scientists and Engineers, do you enjoy your work? Do you crave the opportunity to work with the latest technology and alongside industry leading experts? Leonardo has the ability to take you from the science into the engineering.
We are looking for people with either working knowledge or solid qualifications in applied physics, electro-optics, signal processing, artificial intelligence, radar systems, robotics and autonomy, applied mathematics and statistics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and advanced servo control engineering.
This role is based on site in either Southampton, Basildon, or Bristol on a hybrid basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to utilise and develop your current skills within an industry leading technology company. You will be working on real engineering problems, designing and developing solutions that sit at the heart of our products. Not to mention, we offer an award-winning package.
About the Role
As a Systems Engineer, you will bridge the gap between the theoretically possible and what is practically implementable in a real system. We need talented scientists and engineers to take early concepts from a variety of sources and turn them into working solutions for a radar.
You do not need a background in engineering to make a difference. Our System Engineers predominantly come from science backgrounds.
Responsibilities include:
* Applied research: Early research looking into exploiting new technologies or concepts.
* High level design: Understanding the impact of design decisions on performance.
* Low-level design: Detailed design/redesign, prototyping, and optimisation of a processing solution using expertise within your technical domain.
We will support you in your technical and professional development and provide challenging technical work to allow you to excel. Our working environment is fast-paced but relaxed. We value the expertise of our engineers and work to ensure they have the autonomy and confidence to make decisions themselves or as a team.
About You
You will ideally have a PhD, EngD, or other relevant research experience within a Maths, Engineering, or relevant Technology subject, or proven experience. We are not expecting you to have electronic warfare domain knowledge as we can provide support for that.
We would be interested in hearing from you if you also have:
* Experience of collaborating with others within your research group or wider afield.
* A drive to continuously improve your own skills and knowledge.
* A methodical approach to solving large complex problems.
* Experience in planning, leading, and overseeing technical research or development tasks.
* An appreciation of Systems Engineering processes.
* Coding experience is central to our day-to-day work. You should have some experience of using a programming language to solve problems or develop models.
* Experience using Matlab and Simulink would be an advantage.
All successful applicants must be eligible for full security clearance and access to UK-caveated and ITAR controlled information. For more information and guidance, please visit: UK Security Vetting Clearance Levels.
What we Offer
A competitive salary based on your experience and skills, along with an award-winning benefits package that includes:
* Flexible Working: Flexible hours with hybrid working options. For part-time opportunities, please talk to us.
* Company funded flexible benefits: Access to private healthcare, dental schemes, Workplace ISA, Go Green Car Scheme, technology and lifestyle options (£500 annual allowance).
* Holidays: Up to 45 days holiday, including 25 days plus bank holidays, and the opportunity to accrue up to 12 additional flexi leave days per year. There is also an option to buy/sell leave.
* Pension: Award-winning pension scheme (up to 23% total contribution).
* Wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme with access to free mental health support, financial wellbeing support, and network groups to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to diversity & inclusion (Enable, Pride, Equalise, Reservists, Carers).
* Lifestyle: Discounted Gym membership, Cycle to work scheme.
* Training: Free access to more than 4000 online courses via Coursera.
