This is an exciting opportunity to join Birmingham Law School in the role of Pro Bono Administrator and Paralegal Apprentice. This role supports the administration of our pro bono activity, working closely with academic staff and participating students.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You will learn to provide a wide range of support to the running of the Pro Bono Group (“PBG”) and student members of the Pro Bono Group, including active participation in some of the training and delivery of pro bono projects, by carrying out the following tasks:
Advice Clinics:
* Administering the operation of the advice clinics
* Overseeing the continual progression of client cases
* Ensuring that parties are communicated with and updated at every stage of their enquiry
* Appropriately allocating client cases to students
* Ensuring that all enquiries are responded to, referring any to the supervising solicitor as appropriate, and that deadlines are being met
* Managing a calendar of client appointments, ensuring the calendar is kept up to date, that all parties are informed of client appointments and arranging for appointments to be held virtually where necessary
* Attending the clinic, as required, to ensure its smooth running
* Once sufficiently trained and experiences, acting under supervision on client cases by preparing for and interviewing clients, researching legal queries and drafting letters of advice
* Assisting with training the students on topics such as client handling skills, drafting and interviewing
* Preparing and organising the CEPLER office so that clinical work can be carried out effectively and efficiently
* Assisting with the preparation and compilation of student handbooks and other training materials
Public Legal Education (“PLE”)
* Assisting with and contributing to the design, research and delivery of PLE sessions
* Supporting with the arranging of sessions with external parties
* Supporting with the delivery of the student training and briefing sessions for the respective PLE project, and when sufficiently experienced and trained, to deliver the same
* Coordination of and participation in research on topical legal issues and preparation of policy statements, position papers, reports and recommendations
In General:
* Contribute to planning the most efficient/effective means to administer and deliver pro bono projects and maximise student learning and development opportunities
* Supporting the College of Arts and Law in the collation of documents and information relating to freedom of information or Subject Access Requests

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
* English (grade C or above (4-9))
