Consultant in Obstetrics and Maternal Medicine

This is a substantive full-time (10PA) post, working exclusively within Gloucestershire Hospitals Trusts.
The post-holder will be an experienced obstetrician who will join the current team to provide specialist maternal medicine Obstetrics services, as well as delivery suite sessions and on-call, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. They will be expected to work closely with the regional maternal medicine network, general practitioners, midwifery colleagues, allied health professionals, Obstetric, anaesthetic and neonatal staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high-quality outcomes within national targets.
This is a new post to support the expansion of consultant Obstetricians in the unit, with a particular emphasis on diabetes. The post holder will also be the obstetric antenatal lead.
Main duties of the job
* The provision of high-quality care in all clinical settings, including delivery suite, obstetric triage, obstetric theatre and antenatal clinics.
* To support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.
* To provide on-call support out of hours and to attend the Department out of hours as per agreed protocols.
* The post holder will participate in a 1/12 weekday and weekend non-resident on-call rota for obstetrics.
* To participate in the undergraduate teaching programme from both the University of Bristol and the newly established Three Counties Medical School.
* To assist and participate with the development of postgraduate training for doctors in training.
* To participate in and develop Quality Improvement projects.
* To respond appropriately to national guidance and reports including undertaking and supervising gap analyses and guideline change, with particular reference to Obstetric Medicine.
* The post-holder will be encouraged to be active in ongoing clinical research.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* MRCOG.
* Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months).
* ATSM Maternal medicine or equivalent.
* Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty.
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience in Obstetrics equivalent to that required for a UK CCT.
* Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
* Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to lead emergency obstetric services in and out of hours.
* Experience of delivery of maternal medicine service and engagement with regional networks.
* Experience in change management and innovation.
* Experience in maternal medicine clinics.
