Todevelop and provide a comprehensive Oncoplastic Breast Surgical Service to thepatients of County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post advertised is for a new substantive oncoplasticbreast post. The post will not attract general surgery on call duties. Breast oncoplastic (ISCP, CCT) training isessential, fellowship experience is optional.
Taking this into account it is proposed that a successfulcandidate will spend most of their programmed activities working Trust wide, ateither Darlington Memorial Hospital or University Hospital of North Durham. Itis expected that the role would involve programmed activities at otherhospitals within the Trust such as Bishop Auckland Hospital (pending Electivehub approval and joint working with plastic surgery for appropriate cases suchas free flap reconstruction).
Four surgeons are supported in providing abreast service to a population of approximately 650,000 by the expected MDTmembers including three plastic surgeons.The trust is currently rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will work Trust wide and will provide a comprehensive Oncoplastic Breast Service to the patients of County Durham andDarlington Foundation Trust.
You will be expected to offer advice on patients toconsultants in other disciplines when requested.
The post holder will be required to cover for Consultantcolleagues in the breast service during normal periods of leave.
Professional supervision and management of junior medicalstaff.
The post holder will be responsible for carrying outteaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributionto postgraduate and continuing medical education activity locally and whereappropriate nationally. All Consultantmedical staff have responsibility for the training and supervision of juniormedical staff who work with them and it is expected that time will be devotedto this activity on a regular basis by Consultants. If appropriate, you will be named in thecontracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible foroverseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctorson their careers.
The post holder will be required to participate in medicalaudit and to act on the recommendations arising from such audits.
Opportunities for involvement in appropriate researchprogrammes approved by the Trusts ethics Committee in accordance with thepolicies laid down from time to time by the Department of Health and NHSEngland.
Collectively responsibility falling on all Consultants toconsult with their colleagues and hence to co-ordinate their individualactivities in order that the particular service with which they are involvedoperates effectively.
Accepting such management responsibilities as are mutuallyagreed between the Consultants and Chief Executive.
The post holder will be responsible to the ChiefExecutive in respect of the reasonable and effective use of Hospital resourcesand staff.

Experience
Essential
1. Specialist oncoplastic breast training (ISCP/CCT) and training in oncoplastic breast units
2. Independent in non-wire localization for impalpable breast lesions (Savi, Localizer, MagSeed, Pintuition, Iodine seed)
3. Independent in localized targeted axillary node dissection
4. Independent level 1 and 2 oncoplastic techniques including multiple tissue displacement approaches to the breast
5. Independent for chest wall perforator flaps (LICAP, LTAP, MICAP) for partial breast reconstruction
6. -Independent in nipple sparing mastectomy technique with implant/expander reconstruction, ADM/mesh
7. Independent in lipomodelling and applications in oncoplastic breast surgery including defect correction, volume replacement and application to implant based reconstruction
8. Exposure to latissimus dorsi flap based breast reconstruction
9. Experience in one stop breast care provision

Willingness to develop an oncoplastic breast service, breast diagnostic breast pathways including diversification of diagnostic workforce, breast follow up pathways, establish weekly oncoplastic MDT, joint operating sessions with plastics to develop and immediate free flap service and leading modernization of the breast service
