The role:
Workshop Metalwork Technician
The Aircraft Workshop Services team, is looking for dynamic proactive Workshop Technicians to work in either the Fleet Support Facility, or the Powerplant Support Facility, to support the ever changing business demands and to provide Engineering Support to our Customers, and ultimately the BA Operation. Your role would be to perform maintenance, repairs and fabrication under the supervision. You may also be required to support on-wing tasks in the Base Production Area, or on the Ramp at Heathrow/Gatwick, or at outstations for BA AOG recovery tasks.
You must possess experience working in some of the following skills:
1. Sheet Metal fabrication –. bending, riveting, welding, heat treating etc
2. General Workshop/Hand Skills –. performing simple hand-mechanical tasks such as installing/removing Fasteners, drilling out sheered Fasteners, sanding, cleaning, greasing/lubricating, Painting(brush/roller) etc…
The Fleet Support Facility (FSF) is a unique and bespoke workshop environment, where the team come together to fabricate inventive and complex repair solutions to maintain BA’s aircraft to the highest standard. Are you up to the challenge?
If you are successful in the recruitment to become a Workshop Technician in the FSF, you would be expected to perform work in a safe and secure manner, while delivering world class engineering solutions under supervision, to our customer. You need to possess good Hand Skills and be a confident engineer, a flexible team player, able to multitask, lead by example, to enable you to work within an established team within the Aircraft Workshop Services section.
PLEASE NOTE: there are multiple vacancies. Some are positions are Mon-Fri core working hours (typically 7am-3pm) or you may be required to work shifts – current Shift based vacancies work on a 4-on / 4-off 12hr Day Shift rota.
You must already possess the right to Live/Work in the UK – this role is not open to Visa Sponsorship.
What you’ll do:
3. Responsible for performing and certifying the Rectification of defects IAW Approved Maintenance Data •
4. Component Changes arising from Schedule Maintenance Inspections
5. Perform Maintenance Tasks that fall within Scope of Workshop Authorisation
6. Fluent in performing General Visual Inspections, Detailed Visual Inspections and other methods of Surveillance Inspection, Maintenance Checks and Tasks as defined within limitations of Approved Authorisation
7. Will issue Certificate Release to Service
8. Will develop and train and knowledge share and provide coaching
9. Perform PC based documentary transactions as required and make full use of modern technologies/processes
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
10. Ability to hold Airside Pass to support “On Wing” tasks (desirable)
11. Must be competent in reading and interpreting Engineering data and other technical publications, to maximise use of workscope authorisation.
12. Ability to write Engineering data eg job cards
13. Proactively demonstrates sound safety culture
14. Self-motivated • Good written & verbal communication skills
15. Capable of working without supervision and as part of, or leading a team
16. Technical Decision Making
17. Demonstrates good airmanship
18. Ability to Plan & Prioritise their workload.
Your experience:
19. Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent
20. Recognised education qualification, ie NVQ Level 3 or HNC
21. Experience working in an aircraft maintenance environment as appropriate to hold workshop authorisation
22. Experience of working with SAP and Production support processes
23. Understanding of internal procedures and awareness of Quality, Health Safety, Human Factors and Environmental legislative requirements
24. PC literate and good understanding of BA Engineering IT systems
25. Understanding of BA employment policies and processes
