Shape the Future of Research and Knowledge Exchange
Southampton Solent University is on an ambitious journey. Through our “Ready for the Future” Strategy 2035, we will become a regional diffusion engine of intellectual and social innovation—bringing together staff, students, businesses, alumni, and community partners to co-create knowledge, drive positive change and create meaningful impact. We are seeking an exceptional and dynamic Associate PVC for Research and Knowledge Exchange to lead and grow our research, innovation and knowledge exchange activities, shaping a critical area of our university's future.
Reporting to the PVC for Research, Academic Strategy and Planning, you will lead and enhance all aspects of RKE across the institution. Your leadership will drive a step change in research and knowledge exchange income, strengthen researcher development, and elevate our external profile for practice-led research. You will work closely with our academic departments to foster a supportive research culture, oversee the Graduate School, ensure effective data and governance and support our REF and KEF strategy. Additionally, you will lead the Research and Knowledge Exchange Office, embedding a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration while building external partnerships that align with our strategy.
We are looking for a strategic, emotionally intelligent leader. We would prefer a PhD in a practice-led field or with substantive experience in leading practice-led research. A deep understanding of and engagement with the national and international HE landscape is also preferred. You will bring proven RKE leadership experience, including securing external funding, leading large-scale projects with impactful outputs, and driving institutional change. You will excel at building collaborative partnerships, growing a dynamic research culture, and leading through influence and authenticity.
At Southampton Solent University, we value creativity, inclusivity, and ambition. This is your opportunity to drive significant research and knowledge exchange growth in a forward-thinking institution where research and knowledge exchange transform lives and communities.
The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 11 April 2025.
