Role Overview
Position Overview: As a Graduate Water/Civils Engineer in the UK, you will be an integral part of a dynamic engineering team focused on designing and implementing water-related projects. Your role will involve contributing to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of various civil engineering projects with a primary focus on water infrastructure. You will work closely with experienced professionals to develop your technical skills and gain practical experience in the field of water engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Project Planning and Design: Collaborate with senior engineers to develop water infrastructure project plans and designs. Assist in conducting site investigations and surveys to gather essential data for project assessments. Utilise computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools to create detailed drawings and blueprints. Participate in the preparation of technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments.
2. Hydraulic and Hydrological Analysis: Perform hydraulic calculations and modelling to ensure the efficient functioning of water systems. Analyse and assess flood risk and drainage systems to mitigate potential issues. Evaluate water quality and implement measures to improve water treatment processes.
3. Construction and Site Supervision: Support construction activities by monitoring progress and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and regulations. Collaborate with construction teams and contractors to resolve technical challenges. Conduct site inspections to ensure the implementation of engineering plans and standards.
4. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to health and safety guidelines during all phases of project execution. Consider environmental impacts and sustainability in the planning and execution of projects.
5. Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in maintaining communication with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders. Attend project meetings to provide updates on progress and resolve queries.
6. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Actively participate in professional development programs, workshops, and training sessions to enhance technical skills and knowledge. Seek opportunities for accreditation with professional engineering bodies (e.g., ICE, CIWEM) and work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.
Skills and Experience:
1. A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a specialization in water resources engineering or water management.
2. Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
3. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools, including CAD, hydraulic modelling software, and GIS applications.
4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information effectively.
5. A proactive approach to learning and a willingness to work as part of a team.
6. Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices in the UK.
7. Understanding of sustainable practices and their application in water engineering projects.
8. Full UK Driving License - travel to other sites.
