Work for LWD to advance the sex-based rights of women & girls
SENIOR CONSULTANT TO LEAD ON POLICY, PARLIAMENTARY LIAISON & PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Labour Women’s Declaration (LWD) Working Group is recruiting to help us deliver our core aim of holding Labour to account on women’s sex-based rights.
With a Labour government now in place, and women’s sex-based rights in the spotlight, we need a talented and committed individual to take over the lead in growing our programme of engagement and policy development at Westminster.
Location A combination of home working with regular presence at Westminster including some evenings there.
Duration One year in the first instance.
Accountability The appointee will be accountable to LWD Working Group and will report to and be supported by the appointments subgroup on a weekly basis.
Remuneration Competitive remuneration equal to or in excess of comparable senior parliamentary researcher rates. Approximate equivalence to £55k per annum pro rata. Consultancy contract. Up to 5 days per week while parliament is sitting.

Interviews Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview in London with LWD Working Group appointments subgroup in January 2025.
Roles and responsibilities
* Lead on the development of the parliamentary affairs strategy for LWD
* Develop and strengthen relations with parliamentary and government stakeholders
* Identify strategic opportunities to influence policy in support of women’s sex-based rights
* Organise, commission or draft and edit policy briefings on key issues for Labour parliamentarians
* Help organise regular in-person (Labour only and cross-party) briefing sessions for parliamentarians and policy staff at Westminster
* Develop and strengthen networks and relationships with policy experts, legal advisors, and sister campaign groups; identify and brief potential expert speakers and witnesses for parliamentary briefings
* Keep informed about parliamentary liaison undertaken by LWD Scotland and LWD Cymru in the devolved parliaments, where appropriate
* Represent LWD by speaking and providing quotes for broadcast, print and social media
* Work with LWD Working Group to set indicators measuring the effectiveness of its parliamentary work and to build future capacity
* Provide other operational support as required
Selection criteria
The successful appointee will have
* sufficient experience of policy development and partnership work to carry out the roles and responsibilities listed above
* understanding of policy processes in the Labour Party, trade unions and parliamentary procedures
* some familiarity with UK Equality law, guidance and principles
* a broad alignment with a democratic socialist political perspective and understanding of a socialist and materialist approach to tackling the oppression of women as a sex class
* strong communication skills and ability to make effective contributions within parliamentary settings and in broadcast, print and social media
* good ICT skills and the ability to learn to use new platforms
* commitment to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and data protection
The successful appointee will be
* an informed and knowledgeable advocate for the sex-based rights of women and girls and the safeguarding of gender-questioning children
* committed to encouraging UK Labour to develop policies and legislation that uphold the sex-based rights of women and girls and the safeguarding of young people questioning their gender
* a skilled networker and communicator who will use sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact with supporters and also those who do not support us, to achieve the best policy outcomes possible for all women
* able to lead, inspire, support and empower LWD activists and other stakeholders to network effectively with each other
* a strong negotiator and influencer, adaptable, flexible, and able to work without supervision to meet tight deadlines
* analytical and strategic; a self starter with the ability to identify and seize opportunities, make informed decisions, and identify and manage risk.
