Adult Community Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Band 6
Fixed Term Contract: 12 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a forward-thinking and expanding community adult Speech and Language Therapy service. This role would suit a new or experienced Band 6 with an interest in Parkinson's Disease, neurological disorders and service development. This role would incorporate implementation of a quality improvement project for patients with Parkinson's disease.
This is a unique post where a suitably motivated SLT would have the following CV-building opportunities:
1. Delivering high-quality clinical care in the community in line with the national drive in preventative care.
2. Partaking in a full quality improvement project with support from the organisation's QI lead and senior therapists.
3. FEES competencies and supporting in-house, SLT-led FEES service.
4. Developing highly specialist skills in the management of pwPD in line with NICE guidelines.
5. Ability to assist with the reshaping of our service provision to local care home residents, including looking at models of delivery, streamlining the service, and helping leads to review data capture in this area.
Main duties of the job
We will consider applications for part-time candidates. Postgraduate training and experience in dysphagia and independent dysphagia management is a requirement of this post. You will have relevant experience in managing adults with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties.
You will be expected to contribute to audit, QI and service development and will receive regular clinical supervision, support through team meetings, monthly clinical forums, and access to further CPD opportunities. Evidence of appropriate qualification and HCPC membership is essential. Driving/car access is an essential requirement for this post; however, we would encourage interested non-drivers to apply and will consider applications on a case-by-case basis. Salary is dependent on NHS experience and current banding/pay point.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised speech & language therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
Training
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Evidence of appropriate external and internal training as appropriate to specialism.
* Completion of clinical supervision training.
* Previous FEES experience.
Experience
* Substantial clinical experience with an adult acquired caseload.
* Assessment, treatment, management of complex patients with progressive neurological conditions.
* Experience of working with other professionals relevant to client groups.
* Experience of undertaking appraisal and planning CPD for less experienced staff.
* Experience of being involved in clinical audit/service evaluation/quality improvement.
* Development and delivery of education and training packages.
* Experience of supporting patients with AAC provision.
Personal Qualities
* Good interpersonal skills/teamwork.
* Knowledge of BHC.
Professional Registration
* Health and Care Professions Council Licence to practice.
* Member of relevant CEN(s).
* Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
Skills
* Able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the management of communication patients.
* To be able to independently assess and manage patients with dysphagia.
* To be competent in handling the emotional and psychosocial aspects of working with a complex SLT caseload in the community.
* Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions for dysphagia and communication and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
* Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the specialist client group such as NICE, NSF, and Disability Discrimination Act.
* Current UK driver's license/Car driver with access to own car for work purposes.
