Principal HV/MV Electrical Engineer Location: Glasgow Hybrid Sector: Defence Eligibility to Obtain UK Security Clearance is Essential An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal HV/MV Electrical Engineer to join our client’s Electrical Design Team. This is a key role, offering the chance to work on the design, assessment, and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical systems and infrastructure. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to major projects in safety-critical industries, within a sector where precision and safety are paramount. Key Responsibilities: Technical Excellence: Lead the development, specification, and assessment of HV/MV electrical design packages. Provide expert advice and innovative solutions to enhance the performance and reliability of electrical systems. Reliability & Operations: Define the reliability and operational constraints of electrical systems and infrastructure, ensuring their continuous and optimal performance. Design Assessment: Evaluate the condition, design, and ageing mechanisms of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. Identify potential risks and propose effective solutions. Safety & Security: Ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols for electrical systems and promote a safety-first culture throughout all projects. Skills & Experience: Essential: Extensive experience in HV/MV electrical design engineering, including: HV/MV and LV distribution systems Protection systems and control & instrumentation (C&I) systems A solid understanding of British and international design standards Proven experience in infrastructure design and maintenance within complex or high-hazard environments. Strong analytical skills to evaluate risks, operational constraints, and asset condition. A track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and to the required standards. Desirable: Experience within the nuclear or defence sectors. Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition. Qualifications & Training: Essential: HNC or equivalent in an electrical engineering discipline. Desirable: Degree or equivalent qualifications in electrical engineering or a related field. Additional Details: This role requires SC clearance, and applicants must meet the residency criteria for UK National Security Vetting. Both permanent staff and umbrella contract options are available.
